I got a Sonos system. Wahoo!!

Any other Sonos Dopers out there that I can share my excitement with?

I bought three zones and use an iPhone to control them. The system is off-the-hook slickness to the max!.

I can sit on my deck with my iPhone, search for any literally any song on the planet via Rhapsody, hit ‘Play’ and it comes out of speakers all over my house. Or, I can have something different in each zone or I can group the zones in any combination and adjust volume, balance, bass and treble from the iPhone.

All without any wires to run.

I can also access the 17000 songs in my iTunes library, my Sirius/XM radio account, Pandora, Rhapsody, Napster, 15,000 radio stations etc…

It’s awesome and I had to share

If you have any questions, please ask.

That is pretty cool stuff.
Was it very expensive?

Well…I got three zones worth so that was about $1400.

You can get started with just the S5 portable unit. You will need an iPhone or iTouch and something called a Zone Bridge which connects the Sonos to the outside world through your router.

The S5 is quite posh looking and one simply plugs it in to the wall to get 120V. Ours is in the bedroom in the morning (yes…Sonos can wake you up like a clock radio) and in the Kitchen in the evenings.

Total cost for those 2 pieces is $400+$100 assuming that you have the iPhone/iTouch.

Note that Sonos only uses wifi to get the music from the internet or from your iTunes library on your computer. The actual streaming is done on a proprietary mesh network called ‘SonosNet’.

It’s darn clever.
