I got fired after a month and a half and I don't know why!

I was fired a few years back from a job, and didn’t understand why. I was hitting my target productivity, got on well with the rest of the staff, and enjoyed my job. They fired me on a Friday, saying it just wasn’t working out.

I was crushed. I must have done something. It must have been offensive, or they would have told me why, right? My work ethic must have been lacking. I ran it over and over in my head for weeks, even after I found a new job.

About six months later, my best friend got a job at the company which had fired me. I call her The Machine. No one works harder, or is more dedicated to perfection in her job.

She was given the same task I used to do. About two months later, they fired another woman, and gave my friend her job to do as well. Then they fired the receptionist, and gave my friend those duties, too. She worked long hours, even going off the clock in order to try to get all three jobs completed. After about two months of this, she was fired, too. The manager told her that her productivity numbers in the job for which she was hired were too low. She was flabbergasted. The manager seemed to expect that she would easily be able to do the jobs of three people, and keep the same level of productivity in all three.

Later, I heard that the company has “massive turnover,” and many similar stories to mine and my friend’s have come my way. The company seems to resist keeping employees more than six months. I’ve theorized that it must be to avoid paying health insurance for them, but that’s only a guess. I can’t imagine what benefit they find to a constant round of hiring, training and then quickly firing employees.

So i’m working day shift at one of the ‘better’ pizza places around.
My ‘managers’ hold a beer party one night.
The next morning, I’m the only one who shows up.
This has happened several times before.
Once I set off the alarm assuming the (unlocked) door was open, and had to explain to the police why I was the only one in a closed, unmanaged resturaunt. Fortunately we’d already met, so that’s pretty easy.
Anyway, this particular time, I wait for two hours and leave.
I get fired. The managers get promoted.

Shag, I’ll have to second the notion that you should have approached them long before things got to that point, even if it was approaching HR about it.

However, it does indeed sound like you’re better off. Do you get unemployment, at least?

Shagnasty, you were set up. You didn’t have a chance from day one. The person you were replacing was trying to prove how ‘big the shoes are’ that had to be filled…and you were the sacrificial lamb.

My very first job out of college lasted one month…and I was set up this same way. I remember taking the train home that last day in shock. But I remembered the man who did it to me. Two years later, I ran across him again, only I was in charge. He’d had money problems since that other company had been sold and most of the old employees fired (CEO took a HUGE golden parachute and screwed over everyone else by selling his stock directly to the acquiring entity). Basically, he was in trouble and looking for help from my bank.

You know, I was sorely tempted. Could I take the high road and put this behind me? Could I be the better man and turn the other cheek? Could I be seduced by Satan in his organized attempts to subvert the Love God has towards every man? (Oh shit, I feel a Chick Publication coming on…)

I could just tell you that I turned down his request for an extension, but the truth is, I Flushed His Ass Down The Crapper Like The Stinking Turd Floater His Face Always Reminded Me Of. I even called him after I submitted my recomendation, reminding him of how we had worked together once and his name had sounded familiar, and how there was ‘no hard feelings’. But that was just so he knew that it was MY knife that did it…

Less than 6 hours…

Apparently the dumb bitch that hired me neglected to figure out if you need a guy to make you a database for your files, you need to ACTUALLY SUPPLY HIM WITH THE FUCKING FILES.

She was most amazed that I did not Karnack it from her even though I set it up.

“Wheres the files?”
“You are supposed to give me them.”
“Where are the files?”
“Uh, I cant make the file db unless you give me the FILES.”
“Look this is not working out.”

Fucking gaseous old bag of butt jerky in a skirt.

I’ve been fired so many times for such stupid reasons, there ain’t enough bandwidth to tell ya’ll about it!

Aw, fuck it! I don’t even care anymore. The “job” I have now rocks! Buckets of money for doin’ this!

Never kiss an animal that can lick its own butt.

That is a pretty good theory quietman. That could easily be what happened when I think back over it. I just hope to get even the way you did some day. I have seen Karma and it is I.
