It just came in the mail yesterday and I’m still busy setting it up. Anyone else have one?
Nobody else has one? I guess it is a pretty new phone. Anyone have any of the newer Android phones? Anyone else running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)?
My Motorola Droid X is a year old (so it’s far from spiffy-new), but it was OTA-upgraded to 2.3 a couple of months ago. And my wife just upgraded from an HTC Incredible to an HTC Incredible 2 (her old phone died) which is also running under 2.3.
Before those upgrades we both had cellphones running under Android 2.2. I know that 2.3 is supposed to be much better than 2.2 but to tell the truth I can see that it’s different, but not that it’s better. Then again I’m just an old curmudgeon.
I looked at a work colleague’s phone and when we compared it to a third guy’s iPhone the Droid 3 seemed thick and heavy. Did you notice that also? I often keep my phone in my pocket.
When I got my Droid X, I thought it was heavy. Then I saw my brother-in-law’s Droid 2. Holy crap, that was heavy! If the Droid 3 is anything like the 2, it’ll be somewhat too heavy…
As far as Gingerbread goes, I fucking despise the change in the auto-correct mechanic. I used to just ignore any auto-correct suggestions. Now, it automatically inserts shit into my typing, and I have to backspace to correct. For example, when I type the “at” symbol then space, it inserts @the. That’s just one example.
Other than that, I like Gingerbread.

I hate the stock gallery app. I replaced that right away with one that displayed my subfolders as albums. What a lame ass gallery they put on that phone! Everything else is awesome though
I never realized how popular the Droid was in the US until I read about Google buying Motorola today. Blackberry owns the market here (Canadian prairies), and in terms of Android phones, Samsung has the market, with HTC the choice of savvy techies.
