when I log into www.irs.gov’s “where’s my refund”, I get this lovely message - There is a delay in processing your tax return. Why why why is there a delay in my return??? What did they find? Did I do something wrong?? Will I get audited?? Well, nothing like letting my imagination go wild.
Hey, but at least my state gave me back my money.
IANALCPAOTPBASOTI (I am not a lawyer, CPA or tax professional by any stretch of the imagination), but my WAG is that you’re going to prison. You’re going to prison a lot. It was the IRS that got Capone, you know.
Actually, you probably just got randomly selected for a spot-check or audit. Or you may have made some obvious mistake (did you remember to sign your return?) which requires the IRS to examine the return a little more closely. Regardless, I wouldn’t sweat it. You’ll hear soon enough, and if you don’t, you can always call the IRS and ask what’s going on.
I’m expecting my state refund today, which would be wicked cool to have before I leave for NYC tomorrow.
Going to prision - I figured as much. That is why I’ve been spending most of the day getting my anus ready for the abuse it will suffer in jail.
I think it is just a spot-check since I’m getting (or expecting to get) a decent sized refund (boy, did I over pay my estimated taxes).
