Wow - I Got My IRS Refund Already!

I filled out my taxes online (as usual) and completed it last weekend.*
As per the IRS site, they just started processing returns on January 30th.
I just checked - and my refund has already been direct deposited into my bank account!

Wow.
That was fast!
(Their website had said it would take between 9-21 days to get your refund.)
*BTW, I don’t have the EZ Tax - I have to add mortgage and extra income and itemized deductions, etc. etc. So in case anyone is leery of doing taxes online, it is worth the $9.95 it costs. (Free if you earn under a certain amount.) I won’t mention which company I use (as I don’t want this to be some kind of ad for them) but I have used them for almost 10 years now and doing your taxes online is easy! They ask all the right questions, you just plug in the amount, and you don’t pay anything until you are 100% happy with the filing. And as you can see - finished, submitted and refund in bank in less than a week!

::sigh::

I haven’t even gotten my 1099 yet. I supposed I can go back through all my emails and add up all my pay stubs, or go through my checking statements and add up all the direct deposits.

It would be nice to have some idea of what I am getting back.

I file online as well. It’s free for the federal return but you have to pay for the state. I always print the forms and mail them in, I think they charge to efile? Can’t remember but a week or two one way or the other isn’t going to affect me too much anyway.

I think we finally have all our tax stuff - I’d forgotten that early in the year, my spousal unit was on short-term disability after surgery, so we had that form along with our W2s. I’m going to try to get it done this weekend. If we have to pay, they’ll get their money on April 15. Otherwise, I want my refund NOW!! We’ll see how it falls out…

**sari **- I file Fed for free and pay less than $20 to do state - all on line. I can’t remember the last time I sent in a paper return. If you want to PM me, I’ll tell you what I use.

I checked and I haven’t gotten mine yet :stuck_out_tongue: but I didn’t expect to. I filed online Thursday after work. Fed and state - paid $30 for state, my fed is still ‘easy’ because I have no house, kids, etc. and that is free.

Per the service I used, I am getting a nice chunk of change back which is sorely needed so I am pretty pleased. I upped my withholdings one more for 2013 so I can take more home each check instead because I always get too much back.

I apparently can’t efile because I am claiming an energy credit. I mailed my taxes in today for the first time in years.

If you use Turbo Tax, you get a Federal efile for free.

We did ours back around the 15th (TurboTax, which holds it and sends it in when the IRS starts processing), and got it yesterday.

You can file Maryland for free as well. I have for the last few years. The only problem is that it is a bit hard to do. You’d think the Sate of Maryland would have the ability to fill out the same form but they ask the questions a bit different.

I’m still waiting for a couple of 1099s to come in.

I still don’t have my W-2 from my job, and there are some other tax forms I need that I don’t have yet either.

Frack. I do not even have half of my 1099’s yet.

i’m getting back $2500 this year, and i finally got my last W2 (3 for the past year!) about a week ago. i think i filed on the 29th or 30th.

We are taking an education credit, so we have to wait for our refund.

Bloody wankers.

i got one too, how long do we have to wait?

IRS says they will start processing these “Mid-February”

You disgust me. Just kidding!

I only just got my W2, and am still waiting for more charitable donation forms to arrive, so I haven’t even begun the process of getting everything ready for my accountant. Usually it’s late February before I manage to get started. Tax preparation season is sure shorter than it looks on the calendar!

This thread got me to finish filling out my taxes and submit them tonight! I had most of it done just had to put in one more 1099(SA) and then do State.

Check to make sure your individual state doesn’t have its own efile system. I use H&R Block to free efile my Federal return, and they charge to file the state - BUT - Illinois has its own state efile website that’s free. Your state might, too.

I’m getting my refund on the 6th. All but $150 of it is already spent. Boo.

Bah. I never get all of my necessary paperwork before Jan. 31. I’m still missing a couple 1099s, but I’ll probably just proceed without them, it doesn’t seem to matter as long as I report the income. If they don’t file it, it’s on their head, not mine.

SeaDragonTattoo, have you used the IL efile website? Does it require you do have basically filled out the forms by hand first, or does it step you through a questionnaire like TurboTax or H&R Block would? My taxes are complicated enough that I’m never sure if I’m doing it right even WITH the questionnaire, forget trying to figure it out on my own. I could use the free filing, though.

Kaio, IIRC you can either fill it out like a form, or go question to question. It’s not quite as nice as H&R Block or TurboTax (i.e. not as pretty or slick), but I think you’ll be fine if you choose the screen-to-screen option. It’s been a while since I tried one over the other, so forgive me if that’s incorrect, but several years ago when I started using the WebFile there was the option, and it still looks the same with no revising the look as if they updated or changed it much. As long as your Federal return is complete, the IL site gives you what lines to reference and plug in the numbers.

Just checked my bank account. Mine came. State should be here soon too! YAY!!!

Mine’s supposed to be deposited Thursday.
