Wow - I Got My IRS Refund Already!

Hoping to have mine by the end of the week - fingers crossed.

Here’s the link to the Maryland iFile page.

Yeah, their online form is a bit confusing, but hey, it’s free.

For everyone else, here are links on this IRS page for 38 states.

I got my federal refund already but I was putting off state because I thought I’d have to mail forms. Thanks for the info about the free IL online filing through the state’s website! yay!

Well, I finally got most of the tax paperwork in the mail so I could do a preliminary return. Looks like I’m going to owe money. Lots of money. Thousands of dollars. Bah. I don’t think I’ll be in a hurry to file this year.

Color me envious!!

I had a pretty good draft of mine (I use software, but the offline version) based on my numbers from Quicken, and estimates of prior years’ figures, but just got the last critical 1099 Monday. Last night, I verified all our numbers, corrected one thing, and was all set to have my husband review so we could submit.

Then I got an email… saying “we’ll be sending you a new 1099 in a couple of weeks”.

AARRRGGGHHHHH!!!
Our refund is a considerable one, an artifact of how damn difficult it is to come up with the right withholding (and this is WITH using the IRS’s estimator). And I’d like to use it to pay down some bills, dammit.

I’m tempted to submit anyway. From what I know of the 1099-to-be, the amount involved is less than 2 dollars… and doesn’t affect our net income anyway. But amending is a pain.

Thanks!! I’ll have to check this one out. Right now we can’t efile our state return (ignoring that 1099 issue) because there’s a bug in how TurboTax handles long term care insurance deductibility at the state level. I’ve reported that issue (and egad what a pain it is to report a bug to Intuit!!) but the workaround for now is to manually override / correct the figures. Which means no efiling, and it means we don’t have any “calculations are correct” guarantees.

Maybe it’ll get fixed before long… but I’m not counting on it.

For the first time EVER I got a $1000 plus refund, instead of nearly breaking even or having to owe slightly. I know it’s been my money all along and I was just loaning it to the government, but it is kind of cool to get a refund finally. I always told myself that nearly breaking even in the past was really for the best, but I’ll take the refund with a smile

I am in no hurry - I will wait until April 15 before paying whatever extra I will owe. Plus I haven’t got all the 1099s and K-1s yet.

Got my refund today!!!

Got mine today too! Still waiting for the one from Maryland, but they usually are a bit slowrr

Got my federal refund direct deposited today. Woo-hoo. What should I do with my $28 windfall?

Don’t spend it all in one place.

Does anyone know if the IRS has come out with a firmer date than “mid-February” for processing education credits?

I just got an email from Turbo Tax informing me that my return (with education credits) will be sent to the Feds for processing on February 14.

I haven’t gotten that e-mail yet. I can check TurboTax to see what’s going on with it.

Dear **DMark **. Your posting encouraged me to get off my butt and file my own taxes. My refund will be deposited next Wednesday. Wednesday? But if it’s already approved (IRS) why couldn’t you deposit it today?

Bob

Hooray! Your thread prompted me to look, and mine is there too! I filed 2/1 and it was credited 2/8. No state return for me.

Holy crap! My MA refund is already in my account! I just got the email that it was accepted on Friday afternoon and there’s been a weekend and a snowstorm since then so I wasn’t expecting to see it any time soon!

My CT refund hasn’t even been accepted yet.
My federal return has been accepted but wont be processed until next week, according to the updated email I got from Turbotax (I have education credits). Even this is impressive because originally I had been told that it wouldn’t be processed until the 15th of March at the earliest.
My fiancee already received his federal return. He’s still waiting for RI. He owes to MA though.

Why would he get his return back?

Not picking on you, but this is kind of a peeve of mine. The return is what you file to get the refund.

It’s actually a minor peeve of mine but for some reason the last few days my brain has been using the two words interchangeably. It’s very frustrating.

Hey Illinois filers - I just did a check on where my refund is, and there’s a notice that the State had a late start on the returns due to late software changes, yadda yadda. They aren’t giving estimates on refunds right now and the returns are being done in first-received order. Sounds like the sooner you can file, the better! Grr.
