Wow - I Got My IRS Refund Already!

I e-filed on Saturday, and today my bank shows the deposit of my federal refund as “pending” (which usually means it’ll be official after COB). Four business days isn’t bad! Of course, it only took Virginia two business days to deduct the $1 that I owed them…

Got my CT refund today so I’ve now received both my state refunds while my fiance is still waiting on his from RI.
I also got word today that my federal return was accepted today. Hopefully that means I’ll see my refund soon. I can’t wait to pay off my CareCredit card.

Still no word from the IRS about our return. So I have no idea if it just hasn’t been processed yet, or if there’s a problem somewhere. Considering that the IRS has it in their system, I’m kind of pissed that it wasn’t processed yesterday. How hard can this be?

Have you checked the “where’s my refund” page yet?

Last year there were significant delays in processing pretty much any refund, which was quite annoying.

Ooh - and semi-related venting: IRS has a tool that (based on your expected income, pretax etc.) tells you how to fill out your W4. It sucks, but it’s (marginally) better than nothing.

We’re due a huge tax refund this year so I wanted to tweak our withholding. There was a fair chance we are underwithheld at the moment.

And, the damn tool is unavailable. All I found was a notice that “won’t be available after 12/31” with no comment as to when it will be available again. Urgh. I resorted to comparing our projected withholding (based on current pay stubs) to what our tax bill for 2012, and realizing that nope, we’re way underwithheld. So I tweaked my own withholding a bit and will have to wait a pay period or two to see what that does. Why IRS doesn’t have a tool that lets you plug in “number of deductions, married/single, pay period salary, frequency”, and shows you how much Federal tax will be withheld…

I have been checking “Where’s My Refund” every day. That’s why it’s so damn frustrating - I’m looking where I’m supposed to look and I’m not getting any information. This sucks.

I finally called the IRS today, talked to a human being, and found out that we can expect our refund next Wednesday. So apparently it was the “Where’s My Refund” tool that was the problem. In any event, I have been checking my bank account, so I would’ve found out about it anyway.

Wow. I’m used to the Feds taking 2+ weeks to send the refund, so maybe ours will be faster this year also. I just filed about a half hour ago and got an email saying it had been accepted.

Virginia is pretty prompt indeed. Normally we have our refund within 3ish business days. Last year’s was delayed because I hadn’t filed a year-end report with the state for an employer account I had closed out (had been told “no further action” but what that apparently mean was “no further action EXCEPT…”). And one year our refund was docked 10 dollars for a erroneous late fee (also due to that employer account).

The amended 1099 I mentioned? The net effect was to move some money from interest to long term capital gain. Which is dandy, as that’s taxed at a lower rate.

Of course, when the income in question is a dollar and 16 cents, the tax savings are not that big a concern to me :smack:. If taxes were a strict percentage, vs. “buckets”, I’d have saved 11.6 cents. Woo. Hoo.
