Yes folks, I got to meet Geddy Lee , lead singer of Rush this morning! It was a sort of chance encounter, he was passing through my city on his way to Miami for a little R&R in between the recently completed Vapor Trails tour and his work on the upcoming live DVD of said tour.
It was an incredible experience for this Rush fan of 20 years. Geddy was kind, friendly, open to chitchat about the band and their upcoming work, and was also kind enough to consent to an autograph and a photo. All in all a very nice encounter. I am still quite literally light headed over it, as this is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
Lizard, his actual name is Gary, but his grandmother’s thick (Yiddish I believe?) accent made it sound like “Geddy” when he was younger. His buddies started calling him Geddy, and it stuck.

who knows waaay too much Rush trivia like that
He is very soft spoken. You have to pay attention to hear what he says. I had heard about this quality before I met him so I wasn’t surprised by it. I don’t know that I would call his voice “low”, but I suppose it is, in comparison to his singing!
Wow, this takes me back. I haven’t paid any attention to Rush for about eight years, but I was about the biggest Rush geek you could imagine in high school. I guess my musical tastes just changed since then, but I still think they’re very talented and creative musicians. Their work shows that they really care about what they do. Congratulations on meeting the Ged, MH.
I must be one of the only Rush fans that likes the new album. Especially “Earthshine”, “Nocturne” and “Freeze.”
The closest I ever got the the trio was at the Hollywood (FL) Sportatorium, where I was three rows off the left side of the stage, just under Alex’s guitar stand.
