A whole case of Reed’s extra-ginger ginger brew! And a six-pack of “the ginger people” ginger beer (except my kid swiped one bottle already). New year’s eve is gonna rock!
Now if I could only get “Old Tyme” jamaican style ginger beer again.

Man, I love Ginger Beer. Trader Joe’s has some decent stuff.
Once upon a time, Olentzero and I got into a discussion of the various ginger-flavored beverage treats. I ended up sending him a sample of Blenheim Old No. 3 (Hot). This is the best extra-spicy ginger ale I’ve had. They also make a killer “not-so-hot” variety, a diet drink, and an excellent ginger beer.
Have you tried www.strangebrew4u.com for online buying? They carry Oldtyme, along with Ginger People, Blenheim, Saranac, Jamaica’s Finest, Sioux City, Goya, and Bundaberg - the Australian yeast brewed ginger beer.
Sorry, make that www.strangebrew4u.com/sodapages/
First, tell me why you have my beer.
Second, give it back.
So, what does ginger beer taste like (sweet, bitter, etc…)? And, if anyone from the Kansas City area knows where I might be able to pick some up, please let me know.
I mean, ya’ gotta branch out and try things.
Well Doctor, I’d say it’s high time for a DARK N’ STORMY.
I’ll occasionally see Stewarts in the grocery store here – it’s okay but not great.
hijack/Last spring I went to the annual neighborhood flea market with a young (20something) pal, and it was a cold, damp day. We bought lunch at a Jamaican barbecue stand – at one point, the plywood next to the grill caught on fire and everyone standing in line just backed up a foot or two to let them put it out, no one was going to give up their place in line. Jerk chicken and homemade ginger beer. It was way, way too good./hijack
It is like ginger ale with a billion times more ginger in it. This makes it a little intense and spicy tasting. It is a combination of sweet, gingery, and a little spicy. I don’t know where you can get it in Kansas City but I would try a specialty foods store or a supermarket that carries a large health food line. The chains that I know carry it are Whole Foods and Trader Joes if you have either of those there. The Reed’s brand is a good one to try first.
Thanks, Shagnasty, I’ll take a gander at some of our health food stores here in town.
Ah, Ginger! Both spicy and sweet! Such a treat for the tongue!
Ogre, I have been tearing my hair out looking for that link. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! The Tzeroling and I sampled the bottles you sent us a day or so after we got 'em. I drank it out of the bottle and she had a glass of it - I couldn’t figure out why I was drinking it with ease while she was coughing up a storm. So I poured the rest of mine into a glass.
WHOA!!! Now I drink all my ginger beer outta the glass. Lesson learned.
I can get Reed’s Extra Ginger way easy at the local Safeway, and I love it. But now I got the line back to Blenheim and I’m gonna max out my credit card! Whoopee!!
Ecch, Bundaberg! That stuff is nasty. Syrupy sweet.
Oi Birefringence, you got any links for that Dark ‘n’ Stormy?
Dark and Stormy is just ginger beer and Black Seal rum. Delicious Bermudian concoction. Mmm, Black Seal rum is wonderful.
