oh well, he seemed totally incapable of taking it to the pit when appropriate, and incapable of heeding repeated warnings. He really left the mods with little choice. Regarding his last-straw-post, I intended to pit Abbie for that thread, but never found the time (I like to very carefully consider things like that first). So while I agree with Zagadka’s sentiment, he’s gotta learn to take it to the pit.
I gotta say I HATED that google-eye shit too. I’m not saying I’m glad he was banned, I’m not (not that it’s so terrible to be glad someone is banned, it’s just a message board for Christ’s sake, it’s not like he died). But I won’t miss the stupid emoticon.
Booo!
Yay!
The most recent thread I noticed zagadka in was this one. A half dozen posters are discussing the economy reasonably. zagadka shows up and craps all over the thread. Good riddance.
You should think about this for awhile.
I can think of three or four people that I generally agree with that drag down the discourse level and that I’d like to see gone.
It means “I’m an idiot”.
I think you’re missing the point of his debating “style”. You and I don’t agree too often, but I can enjoy debating with you because you generally stick to facts and are able to reverse positions if new facts warrent. Zag was just a partisan hack who started off with a conclusion, usuallys laced with emotion, and then worked the “facts” to support them. Just take a look at the threads he started-- almost everyone of them were classic examples of “poisoned well” arguementation.
Man, I hated that crap too. I figured he got banned for using the O_o icon every other post. That’s a bannable offense in my book, anyway.
Yeesh! I’m glad no mods apparently noticed a couple infractions I’ve committed lately!
Wait…if O_o is bad is excessive use of exclamation points bad, too? How about starting sentences with Wait…? I may be in deeper shit than I thought.
I think it can also be read as  or maybe a cross between the two.
Oh, come on. Let’s look at things from a positive perspective: o_O is hilarious. I can barely look at the thing without grinning. Seeing it as a response to an argument would be near-riotous, I would imagine. It’s far, far better than , which just pisses me off.
Almost makes me wish I hung out in GD more often. I could’ve used the laughs.
If overuse of the word “actually” becomes a bannable offense, I’ll be completely screwed.
Excessive use of exclamation points, question marks, and ellipses aren’t quite as bad as excessive emoticons or acronyms like LOL or LMAO, but they are indeed a nuisance. When the revolution comes, you will have a week to think about what you’ve done instead of being first against the wall.
Wait, you actually think that this sentance is bad?!??!!?!!??!!??!!
o_0
OMG… Wait… actually, it’s not so bad!!11! LOLOL
I hate myself for doing that.
You’re not alone.
ROTFL
Starting a sentence with Wait…? isn’t so bad. It’s ending a post with …What? that will soon be a bannable offense [Og willing].
What?
O.o
Not me. I reported his “retard” post about twenty minutes before the banstick came down.
If someone is going to be an asshole in a debate, I’d prefer them to be an asshole on the side that I’m opposing, not an asshole on my side. At least assholes on the other side don’t make me feel dirty myself.
(Note that in the referenced thread, I wasn’t really on the same side as him anyway–but I was closer to substantive agreement with him than with the person he was insulting.)
Daniel
To me, o_O looks like an indication that the poster is so distressed by what s/he sees that s/he has sustained a brain injury (hence the mismatched pupils).
Ouch!
History lesson:
O_o is one of several Japanese-style up-right smileys.
They first came into use in Japanese online communities (duh), then spread into non-Japanese communities - particularly anime, manga, and video game Usenet groups, mailing lists, and IRC channels. All are text only media. This: :dubious: came much later than O_o O.o, etc.
It has nothing to do with 1337-speak.
