I graduated college....Thank you SDMB for entertaining and informing me along the way

I graduated this past weekend with a BS in materials science and engineering. Most of those who major in MSE here at UK do not complete the degree but I made it. This final semester was exceptionally rough given I had to write a 50 page report for my capstone design project in addition taking courses in ceramic engineering, metals processing, and quantum physics: 14 tough credit hours to say the least. Whew…I think the sigh of relief nearly knocked the wind out of me.

Most of you likely do not recognize my username; I only respond to about one out of every 150 threads I read, but I have thoroughly enjoyed lurking and reading the SDMB during breaks from studying. I read four of Cecil’s books in middle school and high school during some of my free time, so I suppose it’s appropriate that I spent so many hours in college reading a message board affiliated with Cecil’s books and columns.

There are too many you to thank, really. Scylla, Qadgop, Sampiro, Shagnasty, Eve, Stranger On A Train, Shodan, Master Wang-Ka (wherever he may be these days), and engineer_comp_geek are a few I can name among many others.

I also feel compelled to thank jjimm for the following post, which made me laugh the most in recent memory:

from this thread

…and I loved the responses I got from this thread about college professors.

I do not plan to leave SDMB anytime soon, and I hope to have more time to post this summer. This is a time of transition in my life; I felt as if it was a good time to send out a general “thanks” to the board as a whole.

Congratulations, UK grad! May you forever be showered with happieness and success and … whatever else engineers like.

Many congratulations!

Good luck.

Congrats, fellow grad. Now we’ve gotta find a way to support all these damned old people.

I like cold beer and hot women  …such tastes are not limited to engineers, of course.

Thank you, Bosda. Luck as always helps.

Least Original User Name Ever: So true. Our generation will not likely see many pensions as did that of our parents. We should supplement ourselves with roth IRAs and mutual funds to compensate.

My username has become somewhat outdated since I have not worked for the architect these past couple summers, but I may let the name hang around anyway.

Congrats!

twicks, who, meditating on the fact that she graduated from college 30 years ago  just wants to say – your life is so totally not going to turn out the way you expect it to. But it’ll be fun anyway.

Congratulations!

(And thanks for the namecheck, though I think Spatial Rift 47’s retort in that thread was funnier than my original comment.)
