I just paid for a subscription after being unable to post for over a year and I was sitting here looking for just the right thread to post in. Then I realized HEY! I HAVE NEWS!
I don’t know who remembers me, I wasn’t that much of a poster but I’m going to share anyway.
I HAD a BABY! YAY!
Her name is Isabella Rose, and she was born December 26th at 12 a.m. Yes she was almost a Christmas baby but apparently she wanted her own holiday. She wasn’t in any hurry anyway, seeing as how she was due December fourth.
She’s gorgeous, of course. Looks just like her daddy. She has the proper amount of everything in all the right places and hasn’t given me a moment’s trouble since she was born. I won’t make this claim about my pregnancy, but that’s another story.
So…what has everyone else been up to in the past year?
I remember your name, but I don’t know that we ever interacted, but welcome back anyway! In the past year, I moved from FL to MD, got a new job, bought a house, and, um, got a haircut or two. The excitement never ends…
This is now officially the “summarize the past year of your life” thread. It’s decided. Thus:
Last summer I started research with my physics professor, and then continued with 2 more semesters of college. Last fall semester was not so good for me, so I was forced to stop being a section editor of the student newspaper on campus. Also, in those two semesters, I essentially finished the all the courses in physics curriculum at RPI. And oh yeah, I’m turning 21 in six weeks. You’ll see a thread about this (and one aspect in particular) shortly. Heck, I’m just going to go start it now. In IMHO. Just go look for it already. Why are you still reading this?
It was strange about her name. We were all set to name her Alicia Rosa after Miguel’s mom but the minute she was born the name Isabella came to me and I would have no other name. We hadn’t really put much thought into the name because she was supposed to be a boy. We’d been calling her Joaquin Angel for the past nine months!
Hey, I remember you Rushgeekgirl! Congrats on the baby! What a beautiful name, too. I had a baby on December 29th. . .1999. She was almost a millennium baby. Oh, yeah, I also had a baby in 1991 and in 1987. They’re teenagers now. My life is challenging!
That is such a lovely name. Congrats!
Since I don’t have a lovely baby of my own, here are my own events from the last few months.
Had my office moved to a new building. Went to Disney during a hurricane. Started college again. Herniated a disk. Bought my first ever computer of my very own. Got a copy of City of Heroes. Almost failed a final exam because I was too busy playing CoH to study. Finished my first semester with a 3.96 GPA. Turned 25 and got a cortisone shot on the same day. Had a second cortisone shot. Took a leave of absence from school for second sememster. Found out I had to have surgery. Had surgery on my back. Shared a hospital room with two women. They were 95 and 100. Very interesting ladies. Watched my fiancee’s beloved grandfather waste away. Found out I can go back to work next week and I have to start PT. Stayed in a very nice hotel. Buried my fiancee’s beloved grandfather.
In the upcoming months I will celebrate the 6th anniversary of when I met and started dating my fiancee, celebrate my future in-law’s 35th anniversary, go to my fiancee’s 35th family reunion and go back to school.
What a difference a year makes though. I’ve been through two cars and four cats, discovered my 15 year old isn’t always honest with me (yes it took that long to discover our relationship isn’t perfect) and I believe I was celebrating a 65 lb. weight loss before I left. Well I’ve gained all that back and more thanks to pregnancy and those evil Take Five bars. :smack:
I know all about December 26th birthdays because I had a little girl on that day in 2002. Since I couldn’t get people to come to our house when it’s cold and snowy we hold her half birthday in June. My husband and I just started trying for her brother or sister this month.
This past year when not watching said child with love and amazement, I’ve been putting in hours at my part-time job and working on my writing. I’ve had a number of articles published, primarily in regional parenting publications.
Crack in a candy wrapper! Damn, those things are good, aren’t they?
I won’t be eating them for a while, though, because (my big news) I’m getting braces tomorrow. My teeth have been shifting slightly for a few years now, and I had the wisdom teeth on the left side out in the fall and that apparently caused all the other teeth to think, “Hey, extra room! Everybody spread out!”
I have a feeling I’m going to be needing an Advil the size of my head around 10:30 tomorrow morning.
Oh, I’m dreading this.
