I had to put my cat to sleep.

In December we had to put our 14-year-old dog to sleep. I cried more than I have at anything else. Someone on this board said something about how every pet comes with the promise of a broken heart - but it’s worth it.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Oh my, how sad and true. My thoughts with you on your loss, and I hope your pretty baby meets my big Floop dog. He got along with cats while he was alive, so I know he will now.

My cats will get an extra hug in memory of yours.

I am sorry for your loss.

We are going to have to put one of dogs down soon. I am just trying to muster up the strength to do it.

I’m so sorry for the loss of everyone who’s lost pets. :frowning:

Last year was like a nightmare for my family…my father was in the hospital getting better from a horrible motorcycle crash, and while he was away from home (almost a whole year) we had to put both of our dogs down, and our 17 year old kitty who we adopted as a sick, worm-infested barn kitten and loved for her whole life. She was a spitfire – 5 pounds soaking wet, but she would completely dominate our 12 lb male cats who were 6 years her junior. She was the only one of our cats who slept in my room and she would let me pet her more than anyone else.

She got cancer near her hip that made her limp, then broke through her skin and made her bleed. We couldn’t feel the tumor and thought she just had arthritis.

I still feel like such a jerk, but we were so distracted by my dad’s crisis…she deserved better. :frowning:

Oh, I’m so sorry. I, too, have had to do that. It sucks. It espcially sucks because it’s the right thing to do and it still sucks.

I can still remember the look on Mog’s face when I was holding him and the vet gave him his injection. He just looked up at me with those eyes and went to sleep. He did look peaceful. It’s been 9 years. I still cry about it sometimes…like right now. He was the best cat ever! (eta: I know they all are “the best cats” because they are ours and they love us.)
