Gah! I love you guys… Always challenging me to think in a different way.
So okay…
Misnomer: She’s a veggie eater but not on any PETA based principal. Just chooses not to eat meat because she doesn’t like it… though I don’t see how you can’t. :dubious:
Problem is, I’m a good cook and all my best meals revolve around meat. Sure I can cook lot’s of things that don’t include an animal carcass of some type but I find no joy in that. I must have meat and I like people to enjoy what I make. If this works, this will be a big adjustment to not serve her meat. BTW, she doesn’t care if I grill and eat a side of beef in front of her. Just as long as I don’t get any on her plate.
Featherlou: Religion is rarely an issue for me. It wasn’t with my last g.f. who was a practicing Episcopalian. She was okay with me being an atheist and we had many good discussions about our belief (or lack there of) systems and never a cross word or feeling. This girl is an atheist. Perhaps even a bit harder line atheist than I. If anything, I’ll be playing devil’s advocate pro religion. Just for the sport of it. But she’s very bright so there will be lots to talk about.
Lost in Cyberspace: I did meet her on match but as luck would have it, she also is a member at my gym. I’ve seen her there on a number of occasions but we never spoke as we both tend to keep to ourselves while working out. I didn’t recognize her from her photos but did almost immediately upon meeting her.
Good point Sengkelat, I’ve a tendency to rush into things a bit. I’ve got to manage my expectations better, in this case and in general.
Jimpatro, the Lotus has leather trimmed racing seat… did I mention she tracks the car!! :eek: However, the 2003 M5 is two tone leather. So is the brand new XC90 V8.
Snickers: the Elise is sure not pretty. It looks like a water bug to me but cute one and it goes like stink and rivals most super cars for weight to horsepower ratio. It’s something like 10lb/hp.
However, my radar is still active for any bogie pings at this point. She’s pretty cautious as well and that helps balance things out a bit. She has been quite effusive and complimentary towards me and I sense she really likes me. It’s nice to be complimented so genuinely. It’d spent too long a time in my marriage without that kind of attention and appreciation.
We’ll see. Sensors on full alert and ahead 3/4 speed.
Look at this as a challenge and an opportunity to learn something new. I was a vegan for a couple of years and am an excellent cook. I found lots of ways to serve vegan meals to my non-vegan family that they actually liked and appreciated (and asked for again).
Cook together, it’s fun. Cook together naked, it’s more fun (but be careful).
Seeing this fron the other direction–I have some friends who are vegans, and I’ve actually learned some neat tricks in order to make food they can eat. Last year at Thanksgiving, I used apple cider instead of broth in the stuffing, and it was absolutely fabulous. Checking labels on everything before you buy it can be arduous, but my friends really appreciate that I take the time to do it, and I’m guessing your ladyfriend would, too.
Yeah, vegetable broth over chicken broth is a no brainer and tastes just as good. That’s not the challenging part. It’s missing the entire turkey that’s going to make thanksgiving a bummer. Or rather… having to eat it all myself. :smack:
On the bright side, my kids won’t come near vegetables and this woman has a son the same age as my oldest and he is a vegetarian as well. Perhaps if things work out, some aspects of the veggie diet will rub off on my kids as they get exposed to the two of them.
It’s always something though… isnt’ it? If it’s not religion, it’s a criminal record or that insanity runs in the family or a vegan lifestyle. :rolleyes:
My point about religions was just to illustrate that a common bone of contention doesn’t need to cause friction if the two people involved don’t make an issue of it, but I’m glad you’re compatible religion-wise as well as all the other things.
You’re right about it always being something. Religious, vegan, crazy family, huge sports fan… {said with tongue firmly in cheek}
