Early on, the Beatles were a very, very good rock & roll band; the chickies (I was one!) loved them & the guys decided to wash the gunk out of their hair & electrify their folkie guitars. Later Beatle tunes & lyrics became more sophisticated, but they were never subjected to the analysis displayed by the fanatical Dylanologists.
Not that they were the only good musicians at the time–& at other times. Anybody too young to understand what was going on in those days–& whose older relatives had unhip record collections–might well grow up to like Styx…
Bob Dylan is good, but not that great. He’s another one that has been granted undue immortality. Very few bands that have been granted immortality actually deserve it.
