They yap endlessly about patriotism but when the chips come down they slam patriotism as “protectionism”. It’s because of these guys that we have American flags made in China.
Conservatives are like watching a really bad cartoon. A groaner per second is a good day for these guys. They don’t think anything exists outside of laissez-faire capitalism and a good bombing of some swarthy people. Or whoever is the new black.
Arguing with them is pointless. I sincerely wish we could ship them off to another world and let them live by their ideals so everyone else can actually enjoy progress. But then we’d wind up sending them aid when all hell breaks loose.
I’m relatively conservative on some issues but full of disdain for the current configuration of the Republican Party, for sure. What do you want to ask? Ticking the “hot button” issues off, I am pro-gun, pro-abortion, pro-marijuana legalisation, pro-strong military and anti-terrorism efforts, anti-religion in government…
However, if you think that the division between people who agree with your arguments in this thread is that those who agree are liberals and those who disagree are conservatives, you’re very much mistaken.
I hate stereotype conservatives, but make certain specific exceptions. Like, I can’t help feel some small nugget of clemency towards my parents, or the woman I love. Damn but they’re idiots sometimes though.
The real piss in my soda is that it seems that the politics are becoming dominated by the stereotypes.
My position isn’t isolationist. It’s anti-trade with low wage nations. How many times do I keep having to repeat that I support lowering trade barriers with nations like Canada and regions like Europe before this “isolationist” garbage gets dropped?
I don’t hate conservatives. I do hate partisan retards who fan the flames of Us vs. Them which has replaced debate in U.S. politics. I hate them doubly so when they’re on the same side of the political spectrum as me, because they become the Them into which I am lumped and since they’re assholes, that sucks for me.

You mean back when our founding fathers only wanted the landed gentry to be able to vote? Or all the work done by black slaves? Or the slaughter of the Native Americans? The country was built on the back of a lot of things - a lot of stuff we’ve abolished due to liberalism.
It sure beats burning their cities down like liberals had to do to Atlanta. Liberals haven’t always been “nice”. At one time long ago liberals had balls. We stomped our way into enemy territory and put an end to slavery when we had to.
Oh and before you say it was Democrats who defended slavery and Republicans who set them free… I’ll remind you that back then, Democrats were Conservatives. They switched souls in 1964.
As for bailing them out… the Blue liberal states already bail out the red Conservative states. Right at this moment.

I think it’s a mistake to try to make comparisons like that. I don’t think you can really make modern comparisons to the parties in the 1860s. Neither of the sides in the Civil War were made up of modern liberals or modern conservatives; the beliefs, values, attitudes, and issues were just different.
Stephen Douglas never made any statements about TARP, gay marriage, or funding alternative energy sources, and in the 2008 election, neither of the candidates expressed an opinion on bimetallism or the expansion of slavery into the territories.
You can stop playing the partisan game and be a voice that people might actually want to listen to.
