Whatever guys. OP had the right to choose his battles. Racists are everywhere. If I called out every time a racist said something racist, would constantly get into fights. Not that getting into fights is bad, but the reason has to be worthwhile.

If the gf would rather hangout with the racist douche-nozzle, it is not abandonment, but rather a rethinking the relationship situation.
I would rather not be associated with a person like that, then worry about how he’s going to react to me. You keep saying something about how he might be in danger in an urban area with a large black population, but you are hanging out with him. So, that’s your boy and you are probably a racist, too (I mean as far as the perception goes for some people). I personally couldn’t imagine being in a situation like that and just tolerating it. To me “keeping the peace” might mean letting some innocuous comments slide and not being drawn into a fight or argument over some petty stuff, but this is different.
Agree, we all have been in that situation we wished we could go back in time and do something differently, next time you will be ready for the bastard .
