I hate, hate, hate those Capital One commericals with David Spade

Fat guy whinning, Spade smirking, anyone find these things funny? Hate 'em!

not funny at all

I think that they aren’t bad at all.

sigh

Sigh?

I’ve got a sigh for ya’:

ennunciate what exactly you find objectionable about the commercials. Even if I disagree, folks will still be entertained and you won’t be fighting with Mycroft Holmes for the title of the crappiest pit thread of the week.

I love them and the vikings too.

The fat kid is getting a lot of other work too I see.

Good on them all…

Beats the heck out of the car adds…

YMMV

Watch the “wearing a wire” one closely - when Chubsie is first taped up, his chest is a smooth as a swimmer’s. But when Mr. No is ripping off the tape, suddenly he’s got the chest of a caveman.

No.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Just say no, Ripper.

The answer is always “No”.

I really quite like the commercials. David Spade’s never bothered me and I like the other guy and wouldn’t mind seeing him parlay his commercial career into television.

I assumed that was smoke and soot from the wire that shorted out. Not that it would actually happen like that in real life but this is TV science.

One of my favorite commercials.

But has any actor’s career survived being a hit in commercials? (I think of Kirstie Alley. I think of Orson Welles.)

Depends entirely at what point in their careers they becames associated with hit commercial campaigns, under what context. On the rise? No. Doing purely voiceover work? Hardly ever. Doing suspect product endorsments their career already lags? Damaging. (Remember when Muhammad Ali piched D-Con Roach Killer?) Ads seen only overseas in markets like Japan and never in America? So far, so good. Also, comedic actors seem to fare better than serious ones, generally. Doing PSAs for charitable causes doesn’t seem to hurt any of them.

Successes I’m thinking: Bill Cosby, Betty White, James Earl Jones, John Cleese, Tom Cruise, Whoopi Goldberg, Chevy Chase, etc.

Sound familiar at all?

I hate David Spade to a degree beyond my abililty to express it. If someone said that they could magically fix it so that David Spade never existed, in exchange for 5 years of my life, I’d take the hit.

I agree. I hate 'em too. I’m not a big fan of Spade in general, but those commercials garantee that I will never get a Captial One card.

Soooo, anybody gonna get a loan from Ditech?

David Leisure got his job on Empty Nest* based on his gig as Joe Isuzu.

Jim Varney’s Ernest character started out as a recurring character in some regional ad, I don’t remember which one.

The commercials are a helluva lot funnier than his current Comedy Central show.

As for the Ditech ads, they need to go the Geico route and have the loan officer get a job with Ditech.

I hear sometimes you say “yes”.

A Washington, D.C. area car dealership, if I remember correctly from my days in Maryland.
