I hate the damn Yoplait foil yogurt cap

More often than not it will tear wrong and only partially uncover the opening. This means I have to reach into the small hole to work the rest of the foil free, getting yogurt on my fingertips.

Or, I will try to work the folded over edge up around the circumference, but this can lead to foil cutting under my fingernail (one of the most painful feelings ever).

Also, I have a weird habit of shaking the container before opening in it order to get all the yogurt mixed up. Well, doing this invariably leads to a bit of yogurt getting spit at me as soon as the foil seal is cracked. (I try to remember not to shake it, I really do.)

Come on Yoplait, there has got to be a better way.

Try not to push down on the foil as you open, just pull straight up, at least to get it started. What’s most likely happening is that you’re using part of your hand to ‘pry’ the top off (like you would with a can). This is pressurizing the inside just enough that it’s letting out a little yogurty burp when it finally opens.

So the lid foils your attempts to open it? Do you feel like a foilure?

Yeah, I try to only touch the rim to prevent that but my hands are too big.

I nominate it for Worst Product Design Ever, in the yogurt container category.

Would it help if, instead of shaking it, you just stirred it with a spoon once it’s open?

Use a thumbnail to lift the foil all the way around the cup first. Put a nail under the foil opposite the tab, and “wrinkle” it up to the rim level. Do this about six more times all around the areas where the tab isn’t. Now instead of foil that wraps around the lid, it’s just resting on top of the lid, held on by glue. The top will come off easily without tearing.

Enjoy,
Steven

At first I read this thread title as “damn Yoplait fail” – which actually would’ve been accurate.
