I want out of there! Guess what? You can’t delete your account. I looked everywhere, nothing doing. What do you have to do, get banned? Believe me it would be easy to do, and very tempting. But that would just give them the satisfaction of banning me, and my parting ban-causing flame would just get edited to make me look stupid. I’d rather just leave. I ran afoul of the mods once too, early on, suggesting gently that a reviewer who ranted and raved constantly against the drama she was recapping be replaced by someone who actually could stand to watch the mess (I was much more polite about it there). I was accused of ‘mind-reading’ and telling them what to do and got a slap on the wrist–five slaps and you’re banned.
Basically, I have had some wonderful discussions and ‘met’ some fascinating people there–maybe I’ll go to a TWOPCon, as their F2F’s are called, someplace downtown to watch the last episode of ANGEL --but there are also times when the snark seems excessive and needless, and some people get away with a lot more than others (and you might claim that happens here too, but believe me, our mods are models of tact and fairness compared to many over there).
But it occurs to me that, while the OP isn’t asking for the rest of us to do anything, s/he might have to worry about the mods here wondering if they’re trying to provoke a ‘board war’. I have plenty more to say about TWOP but maybe I’ll hold off until we hear from one of them.
I was at TWOP for a while but left because the crew there seemed kinda young, mentally if not physically. They never seemed to get into the intellectual substance of the shows, or seemed interested in meta-discussions. And their metods of categorizing seemed kinda rigid. And the viewpoints there seemed kinda monolithic. I suppose I coulda stayed and tried to shoehorn my posts into whatever form was required, but why bother?
Seriously, why don’t you just stop going there? Why do you need to delete your account?
Anyway, I like TWoP a lot. Yeah, their mods are Nazis, but I like that. Firstly because I realize that keeping the posting down to the bare minimum is probably important when they barely have funds to keep afloat most of the time, and secondly because I have to wade through a lot less garbage (although I see your point about “wordy mcword” style posts, of which I’ve made a few).
Plus, theirs is the best Buffy board I’ve ever been to, and I spend way too much time there.
This reminds me of the time I got myself banned from another message board after just ONE post. Of course, it was carefully crafted to bring about such an effect.
I can’t say it bothered me; that place was an irritating hive of PC garbage. What good can come from a place that has a forum where ONLY women are allowed to post, on pain of suspension for violators?
Ah, yes, TWoP. Been there, done that. Multiple thousands of posts. Then I got banned for something I had only talked about; hadn’t even done yet.
Trust me, I’ve been hating TWoP much longer than you have. I have war stories. Since I’m not sure of this board’s policy on discussing other boards, you can e-mail me if you want to hear them. And oh, there’s drama.
