Why can’t they make a wood putty that sticks to the fucking WOOD instead of to the fucking PUTTY KNIFE?

Because that way they wouldn’t make money from the next pot pof putty you buy to do the original job.
I gave up on wood putty and use lightweight joint compound for almost everything.
Try mixing in some ‘whiting.’ You can some in most paint stores by DAP. It makes it easier to use for filing in small holes like nail holes. Roll it in your hands and apply it with your fingers unless it’s a big ass hole. A pox on any store that sells coloured wood putties without offering whiting.
Like Sleeepy, I use joint compound for everything. Simple, easy, quick, cleans up without drama, you can mix it as thick or thin as you need, and you truly can use it for almost anything.
