1 re: zTofTMI (which turns out to be a get out of debt free proposition)

I have AOL…aren’t they doing something like sueing the companies that offer mass email software and the people that send them out or is it all just bullshit? Even with my hotmail filter on…I still get mortgage rates, lower my credit, teen runaway sluts (tempting, but no), Viagra and of course, the penis enlargement pills. I once had my email account and password stolen and used to send mass emails for a porn site at like 5 in the AM. Aol closed my account because of this…I was wondering why I was getting so many emails from people for me to remove them. BASTARDS!

I wonder if it would be possible to sign up for an e-mail account at a free web-based mail, and then see just how much spam one could receive in one 24 hour period.

I think I see a new contest coming.

Try using Mozilla’s mail client to read your e-mail. It has a built in spam-filtering service, where you teach it to recognise spam mail by indicating what mail is and isn’t and then once it gets sufficiently good at recognising it you can set it to move all spam mail to a dedicated junk folder.

I still have to check the junk folder every now and then to make sure there aren’t any false positives, and a couple e-mails get through the filter into my main inbox, but it catches about 90-95% of the spam.

Doesn’t matter. I once opened a brand new account, brand new address, gave it to nobody, never used it, AND STILL GOT SPAM.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but Scylla - concerning your middle name…I think you might be my father.

Barbarian, I’ve had a similar experience. My company has a small account with Prodigy for our laptop (yes, we’ve only got one–we’re fairly small). The email address has never been used except to access Prodigy. We’ve never given it out, anywhere. At all. Actually, I don’t think I’ve even mentioned it to anybody else in the company. It’s not something that any reasonable human being would use as their own address (random letters). It’s that secret.

We still get buttloads of spam. Gee, do you think an ISP whose name starts with P and ends with Y sold us up the river? Hmmm.

I’m not usually one to point at typos, but “re a dong” is actually pretty appropriate for a junk email thread.

How old are you and where were you were born and what’s your Mom’s first name?

Scylla, I doubt you are really my old man, you guys just share an unusual middle name.

Just in case, I am 26yrs old.

Mmm I hate spam. I get about 10 emails a day (24 hr period) that I actually know who it is from. But all together I get about 700 emails a day. One day I went and logged off at 4am with nothing new in my inbox, got back up at 9am, logged on and geez if I didn’t have 200 spammers lined up and ready to slap me with their emails. huffs Some days when I know it’s just a full box of spam, I play games with it. See how many emails I can delete in 30 seconds. I am doing fairly well at it, seeing as how much practice I get. chuckles

I just got a letter from

“your attorney”

Please, who would fall for that one?

Hey guys good news in this threadover here.
