I have a headache this big...

Now, before you continue reading, spend a few moments re-reading the thread title and imagining holding my arms out wide. Really wide. Like, ten miles wide.

THAT’S how big this headache is.

Here I am, suffering, under so much pain that I can barely read the boards. I feel like I’m about to vomit, my head’s throbbing so much. Shit… I’m going to have to get to bed, since sleep is the only thing I can think of to escape this agony.

Fuckitty-fuck-fuck-FUCK!!! I get headaches all the time. Almost every day, for the past couple years. Usually they’re very mild, and barely noticable. But every now and again they flare up wildly, to the point where it’s almost crippling. Goddamn, I can barely even think straight…

I even tried looking at porn to calm my mind. NADA!

Holy hell, I’m going to bed… I usually stay up 'til around 4:00 AM or so, but I’m gonna have to call it a night early this time. I apologize in advance if I upset anyone (yeah… like anyone cares if I’m posting at 4:00 AM), and if you do get upset, I say… blow me.

PLEASE blow me… I’m also sexually frustrated.

Well, SPOOFE, I care whether you’re on until 4am–you’re one of the few people who’s on the board at the same time as me!

Unfortunately, I’m afraid I can’t blow you. It’s nothing personal and a few months ago I would have considered it but now, I just can’t. But I do hope your headache goes away! If you’re getting them all the time, get to a doctor!

Dude, I second evilbeth! Go see a doctor…

Um, and I can’t blow you either… nothing personal, and yes I realize that human sexuality is a wide spectrum… but I happen to be WAY over on the other side (not that there’s anythin wrong with that! ).

Anyways, a BJ isn’t that good when you have a splitting headache!

And evilbeth, I’m on sometimes when you are! It’s early evening here right now…

Uh, Spoofe, do you smoke cigarettes by any chance?

I don’t know about SPOOFE, spooje… but I do! Why? Is there a link betweens smokes and headaches (among the MANY other reasons why I should throw my cigs in the trash right now)?

Sounds like a migraine to me and I have had them for years. Beware of red wine and some of the stronger cheeses–onions may also trigger migraines. Lack of sleep can bring one on, as can chocolate.

I always needed a really dark room, absolute silence, ice bags and vast amounts of codeine. Of course, I became addicted to codeine, but that is another story.

I feel for you, I really do. Blowing you is out of the question, though.

DAMN SPOOFE THAT MUST BE VERY HARD TO DEAL WITH I KNOW THAT WHEN I HAVE A HEADACHE LIKE THAT THE VERY LAST THING I WANT TO DO IS REAL A BUNCH OF ALL CAPITALIZED TEXT EXPECIALLY IF IT HAS NO PUNCTUATION TO HELP YOU FIGURE OUT WHERE TO PAUSE AND SO ON IT IS ALSO WORSE IF THE AUTHOR KEPT SWITCHING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN TENSES AS IF HE IS GOING TO BE MOVED BACK AND FORTH IN TIME AND ALSO SENSE MAKING IS HARD TO FOLLOW IF IT DOESNT YOU KNEW WHAT I MEANT

Spoofe, from that short description, it sounds like you may have a problem with blood sugar levels. Check with your doctor about that. Also consider your diet, what you eat and when. You might have luck curing the pain of you have 4-5 smaller meals a day, rather than 3 big ones, with long times between them.

Also look at how much caffeine you’re taking in. If you’re doing something like 2-3 Mtn. Dews a day, you’ll need to cut back.

For a near immediate cure for headaches, try this: eat a slice of bread, then take 3 Extra Strength Excedrin tablets. Then take a hot shower, letting the water hit you between the eyes and on the forehead. Also try the base of the skull/top of the neck. Then take a nap.

First and foremost, check with your doctor.

If you walk in Emergency and say you have the worst headache of your life, you move to the front of the line becuse it’s not a thing with which to fuck. See a doctor.

Hey, Spoofe, I’m with you. I know exactly how you feel. I’ve also had chronic headaches since I was about 8 or 9. I pretty much assume when I wake up in the morning that I’ll be in pain when I go to bed. They’re not migraines - I spent years going to every doctor we could find, and that was one of the things they managed to rule out. I went through all kinds of treatments and nothing. Not to be pessimissic or anything - just want to express some sympathy. And as someone else said, try Excedrin. It’s the only thing that ever works for me, and even that is rare.

Have any of you tried acupuncture/accupressure? I don’t have any scientific cites or evidence or whatnot, but I have had friends with chronic headaches that swear by it.

My ex was the same way; he had a lot of allergies and had daily headaches. There would be weeks where every fucking day he’d come home from work, walk straight to the bedroom, shut the shades and bury his head under the pillow and wake up the next morning and do it all over again. It was awful to watch and not be able to do anything… but I digress. He’d looked into acupuncture/accupressure and last I knew, was thinking about it…

Wow, I thought starting this thread was just a dream…

Well, anyway, thanks for the advice, everyone, I really do appreciate it. I’ll arrange for a doctor’s appointment post-haste (it’s been more than a decade since my last checkup… oy!).

I’m starting to get the suspicion that I just might not be getting enough vitamins, so I’ve started making the efforts to take my vitamin tablets every day.

I used to be smoker(3 packs a day). I had frequent headaches. Usually mild ones everyday, with some real doozies a couple times a week. No headache medication would make even a dent.(some medications actually made them worse, like Motrin) Then I quit smoking.

I very rarely get headaches now. Who knows? Could have something to do with improved circulation.

I don’t smoke, and the last time I was anywhere near someone who did was Thursday. I doubt second-hand lingers that long…

What about glasses? When I was 16 I started getting headaches that would worsen over the day, especially on schooldays. My mom made an appointment with an optician, and turns out I needed glasses. My headaches went away within a week. Best money I ever spent. Considering the time you spend in front of the computer, it could be worth checking into.

SPOOFE, hon, a headache so bad it makes you want to throw up sounds like a migraine. Like the ones I’ve been getting lately, which approximately six thousand busybodies have told me sound like classic migraines.

So why in the hell aren’t we going to the doctor to get some good drugs?

Don’t answer that question. I don’t think I’m going to like the answer. :frowning:

SPOOFE, as a victim of chronic migraines here’s what I do.

If I can lay down I do but take a Vicodin before and cover my eyes with a cold washcloth.

If I feel one start and know laying down is not an option I drinl a Coke and take three aspirin. Something about the sugar, aspirin, and caffeine combo seems to knock the little felchers out.

Yep, sounds like a migraine.
When I get one I need a dark, quiet room, a bucket by the bed, a cold, wet washcloth and some Rx painkillers. Codiene is good. I also have some that are aspirin, caffiene and butabital. They help most of the time. As hardygrrl said, a Coke and some aspirin will help the minor ones.

I woke up with one yesterday morning. I got the kids off to school, and then got in the shower (very hot) with the shower thing set to “hard massage” beating on my head and neck, and then laid down till the very last minute before I had to go to work, and luckily (this time) I felt better. Sometimes they can last for two or three days, so I was lucky.

Migraine-producing foods include (as mentioned) red wine, chocolate, aged cheeses, onions and other root veggies (carrots do it to me) and too much processed sugar.

I hope you’re feeling better today!

A headache every day must be looked at. I am very, very, very glad you have made an appointment. Unless your doctor comes up with a solution at once, he will probably refer you to a neurologist.

I am not going to be ass enough to try and make a lay diagnosis over the net, but the good news is that headaches are so very common that there are lots of new drugs and lots of new techniques for handling them these days that were not available even a couple of years ago. You don’t describe them very clearly in the OP, but your doctor (and, in particular and neurologist) should be able to home in on things pretty quickly now.

Someone mentioned going though this a while ago and not getting any results. Go back. Really. The new -tryptin type drugs (sumatryptin, noratryptin, and the like) can be very effective against vascular headaches, and there are a lot of prophylactic treatments as well. Really. They have new things now. I suffer from both migraines and cluster headaches (they are different) and there really are new treatments out there. You need insurance — new drugs are expensive — but if the headaches are bad, it’s worth it.

Some of the alternative techniques actually can work pretty well too, so don’t be afraid to try them if you like to go that way. Someone has already suggested acupuncture or acupressure. Hypnosis, meditation, biofeedback, and reiki can also do good things for some people. Some herbs have double blind studies behind them (feverfew, for example).

Good luck, my friend. I know this kind of hell, intimately.

SPOOFE, buddy.

Don’t want to point out the obvious here, but about the last thing that should be done as a headache is coming on or happening is sitting in front of a computer monitor.

You wouldn’t sit two or three feet in front of your television screen during a headache, would you?

And is the rest of the room or your house dimly lit? That’s even worse.
