I have a question about an inappropriate picture

Hello,

Am I allowed to post a very disturbing picture to ask whether the picture is real or not? How can I appropriately ask this question?

Regards
Thank you

My understanding is that you should post a link to the picture and either break the link so it is not clickable( add some spaces) or put the link inside a spoiler box. You should also explain clearly what is depicted in the picture so people can make an informed decision about whether to click. That’s how I have seen it done.

Is this about the Octomom?

Yes, Crotalus has it right. We have what we call the “two click” rule so that people aren’t surprised by not-safe-for-work content. It’s also courteous when posting anything, in my opinion, to describe it so people know what they’re getting into before clicking, but especially so with something that is, as you say, disturbing.

So describe it fully and enclose the link in a spoiler box and you should be good. Thanks for checking!

I shiver in anticipation.

You’re expecting a picture of blond, tan man? One that’s good for relieving your …
I blame it on the rain.

One more thing. If you feel it’s not safe for viewing by someone at work, it helps to put NSFW
in the title.

Depends on whether or not you can fap to it.

What others have said.

Here’s our Rules on “inappropriate” pictures: What links are permitted? What’s “workplace safe”? taken from our FAQ intro page

Basically, we don’t want anyone stumbling on something inappropriate by accident (for example, when they’re reading the boards at work with the boss walking by, or at home with the kids peering over their shoulders) but we don’t mind people deliberately clicking on something if they want to. Hence, the “two-click” rule – find your picture on the internet somewhere, and provide a link to that picture in such a way that someone has to click at least twice to get there. Easiest way is to hide the link in spoiler tags, but there are alternatives.

Thanks for asking first!

By the way, one space is all you need to break a link, adding multiple spaces just makes it tedious trying to find where they all are. It only has to be non-clickable.

And it’s best to put the space early in the link, like in the http: //, so the link doesn’t partially resolve.

Putting spaces in a link to break it is annoying. Use the “noparse” tag instead, like so:

http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com/aprilfools05/baby06.jpg

Thanks, Biffy, and I give myself a d’oh! for forgetting to mention nonparse tags:
Type at the front of the url and at the end, and then folks will need to copy and paste to get to the link. Basically, almost anything that involves preventing accidental clicking on a link will be fine.

Will noparse tags be preserved by the quote feature?

Tapatalk automatically resolves linked images. DOes anyone know if the nonparse tags prevent that from happening in the App?

It’s “noparse,” not “nonparse.” I just tried the latter to see if it also works, but it doesn’t.

Testing:
http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/3082/why-do-humans-have-so-little-body-hair

And it does seem to come through.

Slightly off-topic - but is it true that if just three more “stickies” are added to ATMB, all new threads will have to be eliminated due to lack of space?

Is wrapping the link in spoiler tags sufficient?
