I have a question

If we’re going to suscribe to the board can the Admin. turn the edit post feature on? It doesn’t add to the cost or bandwidth.

It would be a help to those of us who can’t type and end up looking like idiots with all the typos and grammar miscues or who wish to add something to the original post.

As I understand it, the reason they disabled the Edit feature in the first place was because people were abusing it, but either deliberately posting inflamatory remarks, then after several replies they would edit their comments to appear innocuous; or if, say, a Pit thread didn’t go the way they planned, edit it so the subsequent flames seemed unwarranted.

The edit feature would work OK if they displayed the ordinal post followed by the edited post. That seems like a lot of work to me though. Might as well just force a new post, like it is now.

Thanks.

The software does allow the line, “Edited by XXXX” to be added to the edited post. So one could see that the post was edited by the OP for whatever reason.

Just a thought.

Right. And it does, too, on the occassions that a moderator has edited a post to remove an unapproved link or somesuch. Unfortunately, it doesn’t give any indication of what was edited. There still wouldn’t be any way to distinguish unscrupulous edits from legitimate ones. FWIW, you get used to the lack of editing ability after a while.

Personally, I think we do ok with out the edit option. If you make a typo, most people can figure out what you mean. If you use incorrect grammer or punctuation someone will point it out to you. If you need to clear up something you can quote yourself and re-word your thoughts.

Rihgt, plyus my tping is perfect6ly godeo withoutn ti.

If we can figure out what you are trying to say, s’all good.

<right, plus my typing is perfectly good without it. >

Or you could (1) learn to use the Preview button and (2) accept that typos will slip in now and then. It happens to all of us.

I’d like the admins to turn the “Free Fried Chicken” function on now that I’ve paid my $4.95. Though, I guess technically, now that I’ve paid, it wouldn’t be free anymore.

Happy

Wait, they have food here??

Well somebody’s been sending me cupcakes.
I just assumed…

ordinal? … HA!!!

A board I moderate on does allow edit, and yes it gets abused constantly…usually in a good natured way but it is a smaller board that everybody knows everybody else. a good compromise is havea time limit, so that you can edit for x number of minutes after posting, but after that its locked. That way you can correct typos you didnt think to preview.

As someone already said, use the preview button! Also, use the B I U etc. buttons at the top of the reply page, because then the coding is more likely to go through correctly. Finally, you can ask a mod to fix it for you, but if it’s something minor, I’d probably just avoid bothering them unnecessarily. IANA mod, but it seems they have enough to do already.
