I have an interview

for a position that’s already been filled. This is so frustrating. The company I work for has a bad habit of creating positions for people and then (as required by law) posting the position, even though there is no hope of anyone else getting the position. Not every position is that way here, but it seems to happen more often than not. Recently, my supervisor questioned me as to why I didn’t put in for a supervisory position – I told her I weighed my options and decided I wasn’t ready to go back into management (side note – every place I have ever worked for has pushed me into management, because I do it well, even though I am loathe to do it), and opted to not go for it. The truth was that I figured the position had already been filled. Turns out it wasn’t. How funny, seems it still hasn’t been filled, so who knows – maybe it will be re-posted.

Back to the situation at hand. The position was posted last week and I asked around and since no one seemed to know anything about it, I put my name into the pool for it. If I get it, it would be at the very least a 25% pay increase due to being 40 hours as opposed to 30. As it is in a department whose starting salary is $ .03 more than I make currently, and somewhat of an assistant manager position, it is surely more than that. The other good point being that if I got it, my insurance cost would be halved going to FT.

After I submitted my name for interviewing, I found out that indeed the position was created specifically for another person. This other person is decent at her job, but has a bad habit of climbing. She will do whatever is in her means to get what she wants. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t fault her for it, I just don’t work that way. Currently, she is hiding the fact that she is approximately 5 months pregnant (not very well if you ask me, but) in order to get promoted. Again, whatever.

So, I have an interview later today. I have more than enough experience for the position, and all the qualifications (and then some), but I know I won’t get the position. It really ticks me off, and I honestly was ready to refuse the interview, but I figure what the hell, I will do it anyway.

Has anyone else gone through this? What did you do? Funny enough, the person doing the interviews actually likes me, but seems to like the other girl more. Advice, comments, call me an idiot for accepting an interview, whetever encouraged.

Take the interview and nail it and then, when the climber either moves on or drops the kid, be ready to move into the position.

Would it be wrong to casually drop the dime on the pregnant lady during the interview? Your only loyalty should be to you and your family, and the company only as long as they are paying you. you don’t owe the pregnant woman a thing.

Believe me, I had considered this until I discovered that the interviewer is aware of the pregnancy. She is also hiding it from the person who will be making the final decision. I have committed myself to just doing the best I can on the interview and letting things fall where they may.
