I had my iTunes account on my laptop, which was recently stepped on. I pronounced it dead, and about a week later went to buy a new song for my iPod. It was then that I realized the problem. I would have to transfer my purchases to my desktop to buy a new song on it and put it on my iPod. Doing so would result in me losing about half of my music, because it says it cannot transfer all of the songs. Is there anything I can do about this?
Do you have all of your songs on your iPod? There are fairly easy ways of transferring all of the files from the iPod back onto a computer. You should then be able to load them into iTunes.
yes. How can I transfer them? Like I said it says it can only transfer X number of them when I click transfer purchases
There are third party applications that will transfer songs from your ipod to your computer. I’ve never done it, so can’t speak to which one to look up.
I have used Senuti (iTunes backwards) to move songs from an ipod to a mac. don’t know what’s out there for PCs.
Senuti does exactly what it says on the tin. I used it when one of the kids had her laptop self destruct and we needed to rescue everything off of her iPod.
Since I have Macs and PCs around the house, it was no big deal to use a Mac to pull the tunes off using Senuti and then copy the lot over to her new Windows machine.
I’ve heard of irip, but I don’t know how effective or malware-free it is.
You may have more than one account and not know it. I knew someone who kept messing with their account and somehow ended up with four different accounts, with purchases under each one. If they won’t go over, it may be because the computer isn’t authorized for that other account that you don’t remember having.
I used media widget to move mine, but it costs around 25 to 30 bucks iirc.
Will Apple consolidate those accounts? Or can you authorize iTunes for more than one account?
I had a problem with iTunes, so I wound up just downloading the very small collection of restricted files (Two audiobooks) as MP3 files using–ahem–other sources, rather than deal with sorting it out.
Getting the songs off my iPod was easy peasy–since it was an older one that still allowed Disk mode, I just displayed hidden foldersin Explorer, and found the MP3s, and used iTunes’s ability to automatically rename and reorganize all your files to get them to have the the proper names again.
Don’t sync your iPod, change the settings to “Manually Manage Music” and Enable Disk Use. Once this is done remove your iPod and then plug it back and the Ipod will be visible on your computer. Find the iPod control folder and the music folder, then just copy and paste all of the folders to your “My Music/iTunes/Itunes Media/Music” folder in windows or where ever your folders are stored on Windows or Mac depending on what you use. Then import those files (folder) into I-Tunes and use their “Automatically keep my iTunes folder organized” selection for iTunes to rename and organize all of the files based on their tags.
Good Luck.
Remember do NOT Sync to iTunes on your new computer until you’ve copied everything over. if you Sync with a computer with no files you will erase your iPod. Make sure the “Automatically Sync when Connected” checkbox is unchecked before you connect your iPod.
