I have just installed ICQ

…And you couldn’t get more pointless than that. Sorry.

My number is 223223804

I am amazed and a bit suspicious that it’s still free. there must be a catch - come on, what is it? Anyone?

No catch–that I can see so far after months of using. It’s a nice little app and I’ve met a few new people on it. My number is 348644845 by the way

'nother one of these threads, eh?

  1. Mention the SDMB.

11985327

There is no catch - and ICQ is far superior to a certain other messenger program.

  1. Just mention who you are on the SDMB.

I prefer msn messenger… but 114199424

Just dont start out like some swarmy Egyptian and we’ll get along fine:D
*has nothing against Egyptians in general just against swarmy ones

There is a catch. Th’ ads, those incessant ads – dancing bear, high school reunions, email smilies …

I’m embarrassed to say how low my number is.

(I’ve been around on ICQ that long, folks…)

How do you meet people on ICQ? I didn’t realize you could.

My brother found a way around that. With some hacker program or something  (sorry for being such a computer ditz) and got rid of it for me. But that’s on my PC. My laptop, which I’m using right now has the ads and one wrong click, I’m sent hurling through ads. Oh the horror.

But anyway, my # is 65703466 if anyone wants to add me. Why you want to is beyond my comprehension, but just make sure you say you’re from the SDMB so I don’t bombard you with “Who the hell are you?” messages.

I don’t have it installed at the moment (haven’t bothered to since the Big Crash), but my number’s even lower than yours, Thunder.

I’ve gotten a tiny bit fond of Trillian lately; it’s a bit annoying since I haven’t figured out all the bells and whistles yet, but it allows me to talk to people who have AOL, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, and IRC, and have only one program running.

I stopped using ICQ because their app just kept getting more and more bloated… only the few “features” i ever used in any one version always seem to be cut out of the next one.

Anyway, not too long ago I was looking from something that would rub Jabber and ended up with Miranda IM. It’s an ICQ clone by default, but has plug-ins that allow it to access AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and just about any other network you might be able to think of (ironically, the jabber plug-in I never got working).

UIN: 6014226

ICQ 1820996

Truly sad eh thunder…

I use trillian to connect instead of ICQ’s client. It’s nice because AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, msn and irc are all on the same list. (I only use ICQ, AIM and Yahoo though)

I think I beat you all: my ICQ number is only 6 digits.

It’s a shame what they did to the software. It started out efficient and perfectly functional. Now it’s bloated to fuck.

I might reinstall just to say hi to Lobsang.

I just downloaded ICQ Lite - it’s not bad - quite stripped down and pretty much like it was in the old days, though it occasionally has annoying popups.

I recently downloaded ICQ lite as well… but I haven’t been able to find a chat function, so that must’ve been one of the cutbacks. All in all it’s pretty neat, though.

Yes, ICQ Lite reminds me a lot of the old program. I had to quit using regular ICQ because there was some primary conflict between it and Word Perfect (which I have to use for my work) and my WP would crash every five minutes if I had ICQ open. With ICQ lite, I haven’t had that problem at all.

Oh, and I’m 103661492. Mention SDMB or you get blocked unanswered.

Ok I’ll play too.

Not only is it the lowest one yet posted, I’ve also memorized it  Just mention SDMB if you feel like saying ‘hi’

For you *nix users out there I highly reccomend centericq, a ncurses based console IM client. Works with all the major services, is ad free, works great over an ssh connection and is great for keeping a consistent userlist/history if you use icq from more than one computer, since you can just install it on a server and log in remotely. Wow I’m a geek.

I’ve been using icq since the first version they released. I’ve only “regened” (ie, needed to get a new number) once. It pisses me, as I could’ve had a super low number.

Anyway, for those complaining that icq is bloatware - yes, the newer versions are. That is why I, and you, should stick with icq2000b, build 3286. Also, there are patches to remove the ads.

Check out this conversation I had with a bot a little while ago.

I’m 170699613, by the way
