I have ruined my wife

Tonight on Jeopardy, a clue was given regarding Constantinople; the answer – er, question – was “Instanbul.” My wife glared at me, saying “and thanks to your stupid musical group, every time I hear Constantinople OR Istanbul, I get that stupid song stuck in my head.” “That stupid group,” of course, is They Might Be Giants, and “that stupid song” is Istanbul/Constantinople.

Yesssss! The virus has spread!

I was mumbling bits of the song for the rest of the episode.

Well now you’ve ruined me too.

I hope you’re happy.

Damn you man!

I can’t get that infernal drum beat out of my head!

Every time I see that song mentioned, I think back to the awesome Tiny Toons vignette that used it about ten years ago.

Me too, along with the Particle Man song.

::mutters::

GREAT…

It’s stuck in my head now, too. I’m not complaining. It’s driven out that damn “Myahee Myahoo Myahaha” song that I’ve been carrying around for a week.

Heh, I just heard that song again yesterday, and I sang along with it. My son looked at me as if I were an alien, then started dancing with me to it.

“…it’s nobody’s business but the Turks.”

My son’s only three, and he already thinks it’s funny.

Better than having the Blue’s Clues theme in your head all night.

There was a week a month or so ago where I would get “Birdhouse in your Soul” stuck in my head right before bed every night and not be able to get to sleep because it would just keep repeating over and over and over again.

Particle Man…Loved that 'toon!

Reminds me of that time in The Army when me & my buddy were working off some article 15 action (only a true buddy will get an article 15 with you!). So there we were, scrubbing the halls singing:

Article Man, Article Man
polishing the entire universe, man!
What’d he do?
It’s not important!
Stupid Man, Article Man.

Ah…best days of my life!

Does it bother anyone else that they never mention the fact that Constantinople used to be Byzantium?
I’ve also heard the Four Lads version. It’s just not the same.

God, I love that song! It makes me think of high school. I was so happy to find out that the “Malcolm in the Middle” theme was They Might be Giants. I LOVE that!

"You’re not the boss of me now and you’re not so big…life is unfair…:

Wow, I feel really happy now.

Here I come, Constantinople,
Here I come, Constantinople,
Watch out, Constantinople!
Here I come!

“…they have a fight, triangle wins…triangle man…”

Whose fault is this!? You must suffer!

Wait, what does this have to do with your wife? I totally missed that part.

I have an almost daily challenge with a coworker where we try to get the most annoying song in each other’s head. Yesterday, when I was hanging around his machine, he started singing the “Oopmah Loompah” song and looked at me in a challenging way. Damned if it didn’t work. I had that song in my head for hours.

That was all well and good and part of the game. I did get my revenge later in the day. I walked by him and belted out at the top of my lungs, with feeling, lines from “Afternoon Delight.”

I dropped back by three hours later and he swore at me for that one.

Bloody memes.

That does it! You’re on the list.

goes off to sing “Afternoon Delight,” interspersed with swearing

“Universe Man, Universe Man, size of the entire universe man. Usually kind to smaller man, Universe Man.”

For a long time after I saw the Tiny Toons wrestling episode I actually thought the song was created for the show.

“Is he a dot or is he a speck? When he’s underwater does he get wet? Or does the water get him instead? Nobody knows, Particle Man.”

Ohrwurm (ear worm)…a great German word for a song that gets into your head.

Thanks for ruining my night with that crappy song now blaring in my brain.
