Tonight on Jeopardy, a clue was given regarding Constantinople; the answer – er, question – was “Instanbul.” My wife glared at me, saying “and thanks to your stupid musical group, every time I hear Constantinople OR Istanbul, I get that stupid song stuck in my head.” “That stupid group,” of course, is They Might Be Giants, and “that stupid song” is Istanbul/Constantinople.
There was a week a month or so ago where I would get “Birdhouse in your Soul” stuck in my head right before bed every night and not be able to get to sleep because it would just keep repeating over and over and over again.
Reminds me of that time in The Army when me & my buddy were working off some article 15 action (only a true buddy will get an article 15 with you!). So there we were, scrubbing the halls singing:
Article Man, Article Man
polishing the entire universe, man!
What’d he do?
It’s not important!
Stupid Man, Article Man.
Does it bother anyone else that they never mention the fact that Constantinople used to be Byzantium?
I’ve also heard the Four Lads version. It’s just not the same.
God, I love that song! It makes me think of high school. I was so happy to find out that the “Malcolm in the Middle” theme was They Might be Giants. I LOVE that!
"You’re not the boss of me now and you’re not so big…life is unfair…:
I have an almost daily challenge with a coworker where we try to get the most annoying song in each other’s head. Yesterday, when I was hanging around his machine, he started singing the “Oopmah Loompah” song and looked at me in a challenging way. Damned if it didn’t work. I had that song in my head for hours.
That was all well and good and part of the game. I did get my revenge later in the day. I walked by him and belted out at the top of my lungs, with feeling, lines from “Afternoon Delight.”
I dropped back by three hours later and he swore at me for that one.
