I’ve had a mild case of sniffles for almost the past week, along with reduced appetite, vague lower abdominal pain, and probably some fluid in my middle ear. This has happened to me many times, but what’s got me really concerned is that I am also experiencing anxiety way out of proportion to anything going on in my life. I literally cannot sleep because of it; I had some old diazepam and have taken a very small dose (half of a 5mg tablet) before going to bed. It helps a bit.
If I’m not feeling better in a few days, I plan to see my doctor. Oh, yeah, one other thing: I have taken 3 COVID tests, all of them negative.
Pollen counts are high in my region, but I know that’s not it.
I don’t have a cold
But I do have weird allergy symptoms this summer. I’ve always been an itchy person. Now my eyes and lips are itchy and I have sniffly things going on.
My anxiety is increased this summer, alarmingly.
Things are changing again with my health and some of my medications have been re-thought.
I’m COVID free and fully vaccinated.
I also wonder if the local weather has anything to do with it. We have literally had zero precipitation for a month, although we may get some rain tomorrow. That’s NOT normal for our area.
The creek in front of my house dried up, and I was feeling well enough this evening to pick up some visible trash in it.
Yes. I’m on day 19 of an “upper respiratory infection” (doctor’s words). Starting the second round of antibiotics and still coughing stuff out of my lungs. It’s not as miserable as other colds have been, but it’s by far the longest lasting one.
I thought I was getting better and we launched on our long-planned month of traveling the National Parks, only to limp back home. I don’t know if my reluctance was due to increased anxiety, but I decided to turn around and give up. I am more anxious and worried for some reason. Based on the last few days, heading home was a good call though. I can’t seem to shake this one.
It’s been unusually dry here as well (even for Texas), but I don’t know if that’s part of the problem. Also, I’ve tested negative for flu, strep, and covid (all tests at the doc’s office).
How’s your stomach? After a few days of lots of beer and maybe a bag of chips or something, I’ll get a nervous stomach that fills me with anxiety. No stomach ache or excess acid, just nervousness in my entire body that would leave me fretting over every little problem (and stuff that isn’t really a problem). Took a while for me to figure that one out.
Has plenty of summer colds. Whether or not a cold virus or other infectious disease was involved I’m sure pollen allergies were a major underlying factor. When I lived in New York some kind of tree or other plants used to get in my head starting late June or so and year after year I suffered through summer colds much like what is described in the OP.
Aside from my post, you don’t know anything about how much I drink or what I eat. I said I’d figured it out, so there’s no need for your unsolicited advice.
Holy shit, yes. I got a very mild chest congestion thing which triggered an extended asthma event (I’m on day 20, sigh.) But like you say, my anxiety right before bed has been off the charts. I’ve had to take Ativan every night. I usually get anxious at night and occasionally have to take meds, but this has been every night and it’s been so intense. Just laying in bed talking to my husband I keep expecting the bedroom door to explode inward and… I don’t know, a chainsaw massacre? It’s crazy. I’ve had problems with hyper-vigilance in the past but they responded well to treatment. This is as bad as the worst it’s ever been.
I apologise. You stated you had drunk “lots of beer” over “a few days” and suggested that you had eaten only “maybe a bag of chips”, leading to anxiety.
I had a crazy long cold in July (like, the entirety of July) but it not really track with your symptoms at all. I didn’t have any abdominal issues or anxiety. Just a head cold that turned into probably bronchitis (I used an inhaler I already had) and then a cough that went on forever. I slept sitting up for like 2 weeks, but I slept soundly.
Interesting that you and @Spice_Weasel are experiencing the same thing wrt anxiety. My SIL just came down with a cold, I’ll let you know if I find anything out about her having anxiety as well. Sounds scary
I’m finding this thread interesting, not because I have an infection (I don’t.), but because I never associated respiratory symptoms with anxiety. I wonder what the connection is.
I’m sorry some of you are dealing with a lot of anxiety. I hope everyone feels better soon.
I don’t think so. It’s more of an Arizona and/or desert affliction, as far as I know. That’s an interesting idea, considering how it’s been Sonoran-level dry around here (no rain for months). Isn’t Valley Fever related to mice somehow? I haven’t been around any that I’m aware of.
Nah, @scudsucker came off as nothing more than a concerned fellow Doper.
I have had an occasional but persistent cough for, what, eight month or so. The good doctor, when I mentioned it, brushed it off (“could be COVID after-effects”).
And today is day three of a random, unusual-for-me sore throat, which I am hoping will soon go the way of the dodo.
