It used to play around Christmastime-it was for some brand of women’s perfume. It showed a guy diving into a swimming pool-and the shadow of a large airplane moving across the surface of the pool. Plus it was done in black and white.
I was always fascinated by it-it seemed to have so little to do with perfume…cool, in a retro kinda way.
What was it for?
I think it was for Chanel perfume. Probably Chanel No. 5.
Speaking of long-running Christmas ads, has anyone seen the Budweiser one with the Clydesdales pulling a sled through the snow this year?
Chanel # 5 “Share the Fantasy” on youtube. Oddly I can’t find any HQ copies of this classic ad, just VHS tape copies.

It was spoofed/homaged in the Watchmen movie during the opening fight scene.

Saturday Night Live also spoofed the ad, with the “actor” swimming through the pool being a golden retriever, lovingly embraced by a man in a speedo. It was a mock ad for “Canis: Cologne for Dogs”.
All the Chanel No. 5 commercials are just gorgeous, so beautiful and classy. I like the Little Red Riding Hood one, with Estella Warren (and Danny Elfman music).
