I helped rescue a kitten from a storm drain!

It rained today, furiously; there were concerns about a hurricane. Fortunately, that came to naught and the weather cleared up this afternoon. As I was walking back to our dorm with a friend from lunch, we both heard a piteous “meow!”

We hunted through the bushes before I found a storm drain. Peering inside, we could make out a tiny mud-covered kitten. Getting down on our bellies, we tried unsucessfully to reach it, fearing it would freeze as it grew darker. Failing at this, I ran to call for help, while my friend Leslie fetched two other friends to assist our rescue attempt. I called the Mississippi Animal Rescue League, which was closed. Running back outside, I got there just in time to see another girl, Anna, triumphantly lift the kitten out of the drain.

She’s tiny, just old enough to have its eyes open, and caked with mud. Her eyes are blue and her whiskers are white, and I think she’s a tabby, but its hard to tell under all the filth. Anna, whose mother is a vet, volunteered to take the kitten home to clean and feed her, and Leslie has offered to adopt her. She was the only one in the storm drain so far as we can see.

Just had to share.

That’s a neat story. One always feels good when there is a happy ending. Update us if you can. And what about a name? Story like that, the kitten has to have a great name!

Bless you and your friends for caring!!!

What can one say but, great job!

Goodness Nichol I did not realize I was so close by you. I’m just a few miles north of Jackson ! Matter of fact - I know a girl who was Miss Raleigh High.

Anyway, good for ya’ll on the kitten. You should name her Stormy.

Awwww…I love kittys.

Yay for you! I too am a “kitten saver.” My problem is that I keep them all. I second the name Stormy!

Nichol_storm is always doin’ neat stuff! Congrats on the successful kitty rescue.

I vote for “Stormy” as a good name for the kitty!

O

p.s. Nice Job!

Is THIs the kitty you’re talking about?

Awwwwwwwww! Another good deed!

Nicole, you’re great!

I wuv kitties, too!

Awww…where’s the clappy smilie when ya need one?
Good job,Nichole.

I third the name Stormy.

And her eyes may not be blue forever ya know. ALL kittens have blue eyes when they are very small that turn to the color they’ll be when they are an adult around 8-10 wks of age.

Got a call from Anna, and the kitty is doing fine. They’re feeding her with those tiny bottles, and she’s a lot cleaner now. I’ll suggest “Stormy” to Leslie, I promise.

NinetyWt – Cool beans! I’m actually living in Raymond at the mo’, going to Hinds, so I’m just a few miles away from you. Spooky, huh? I’m from Raleigh, though, and I attended Raleigh High School.

.:Nichol:.

“Stormy?” Nah. Name her “Baby Jessica.”

Saw the kitten today, all cleaned up. I was wrong, she’s a calico. Oddly enough, she has only a stubby tail. Still adorable though. Leslie’s taking her home.

I suggested Stormy, and she loved it. We called the kitty that all day, and I think it suits her.

Eve – I would, but my RL name is Jessica, and it’d be awful presumptuous to name her after myself, wouldn’t it?

.:Nichol:.

and they lived happily ever after…

ah, the bottle feeding stage. the best thing is with kittens is it is over quickly. i remember those 2 weeks of 2-3 hour feedings. then it was 4-6 hours. then “hand over the bowl, human.”

i hope she does well.

Another vote for Stormy.

I vote for Drainy or Muddy.
