I hurt my shoulder knocking in a door

The door was locked, I didn’t want it to be. So I ran at the door several times, shoulder first.

On the fourth time or so, I heard a pop and my shoulder felt odd. I switched to kicking it and eventually got it open.

Now, an hour or so later, my shoulder hurts when I move my arm, and feels a little stiff. It hurts the most when I hold my arm straight in front of me and rotate it upwards, or make the opposite motion. It aches a little when I push on the joint from directly above.

Yeah, I’m an idiot, I was in a bad mood and a hurry and locked myself out of a room. But, what did I injure?

It doesn’t really hurt that bad, just feels stiff.

Sounds like you might have dislocated your shoulder. Go to a doctor.

My wife dislocated her shoulder once, and badass that she is managed to reseat it. It still hurt though, especially when raising it. Turned out she had some pretty serious soft tissue damage and needed physical therapy to bring her range of motion back to normal.

Yep, the shoulder is a dumb thing to use on a door - it is actually a delicate mass of muscles, tendons and bones, and you risk bolluxing it up completely. Next time, use a big fire extinguisher.

Get it checked out. I popped my shoulder a couple of years ago while skiing - partial out and back in (I have hyperelastic joints, so these things are not as serious as they could be, but they are more likely to happen). It hurt painfully for a couple of weeks (didn’t stop me skiing, though) but I still need to control the muscles round the joint while lifting to prevent it hurting/popping again.

Si

It could have been a rotator cuff.

Does anybody know the efficacy of knocking the knob off with a hammer as an alternative method (assuming no deadbolt. I assume the OPs had one, or it wouldn’t have been so difficult).

You can probably recoup your medical costs by filing suit against COPS and claiming they had no “don’t try this at home” disclaimer.

I’m going to close this one. There’s no factual answer possible without a physical examination and probably some x-rays. As others have said, go to a doctor.
