Sorry for the follow-up post, but I should probably mention that these pics were taken by the Humane Society for their website, not by me – I haven’t had time yet, and she’s still kind of camera-shy, too.
pretty kitty - has the same coloring as Smokey
i found a little feral kitty in the park a little while back. tiny and starving, mewing away, looking for a home (and humans to enslave).
so we brought him back and named him “spaulding”
he’s a very very very pretty kitty…and the fluffiest kitty ever.
yes, a male calico. yes, they do exist. and yes, my idiot mother neutered him.
(him posing)
(him in “food mode”. he loves super supper. he’ll even swat your hand as you’re trying to let gravity pull it out. notice the pretty eyes.)
…unfortunately, on one of his little trips out of the house (because evil mother claims she’s allergic to cats and kicked him out at night just to be mean) he was taken. he didn’t get killed by an animal, that’s for sure. he’s a grade-a mouser if i ever saw one. anything little and furry in a mile radius knew the wrath of spaulding.
we’re hoping he got stolen and didn’t get run over. we’re also hoping he comes home, too…
by the way…where are my manners…
welcome to the board, sunny.
the chicago reader will have your 15 bucks very soon, i predict…
good god, papsett, didn’t you just join?
you’re up to 700 odd messages ALREADY???
…christ, woman…you little chatty cathy…
yes, this post is just to get 4 in a row.
i’ve never seen it done and i wanted to be the first.
love me.
(incidentally, i think i’m the leader in three-in-a-row posts. we should keep track of such things)
Yes, he’s very, very pretty. No, he’s not a calico. A calico is three colors: black, orange, and white (or, in the “dilute” version, gray, cream and white) . I only see 2 colors (can’t see any black). So he’s just a bicolor. Mom’s redeemed from idiot status.
Me, too.
she’s not redeemed…she’s just on probation…
…after all, she did also boot his fluffy ass out at night…
He is, indeed a pretty kitty. Hope you get him back soon. Tell your mom to keep him inside, but keep him out of her bedroom.
As YaWanna pointed out, he’s a bicolor, not a calico.
Even if he were a male calico, he wouldn’t be valuable for breeding. There are a couple of ways to get a male calico or tortoiseshell, none of which breed true. A number of male calicos or tortoiseshells are infertile, as well. The cats that are valuable for breeding are generally purebreds that breed true- ie, a male Siamese cat and a female Siamese cat will have only Siamese kittens. A fertile male calico and a female calico could have calico, tortoiseshell, bicolor (white with orange or black), orange, or black kittens. AFAIK, a fertile calico male is no more likely than an orange, black, or bicolor male to father calico or tortoiseshell male kittens.
Where is that offended smiley when I need it?

by the way, i think the smiley you’re looking for is the :wally smiley
No, the landlord didn’t steal the cat. The tenant was told he couldn’t have a cat so he dropped him off at the shelter.
Sunny does have an Upper Respiratory Infection. He was given Clavamox 15ml. He’s supposed to take it twice a day for 7 days. It’s a white color medicine like amoxicillin. He was given an FIV test and he came back negative. I took him to the vet and I get a free checkup if he was adopted from a shelter. The other stuff cost $86.00. She said Sunny is 7 pounds and should weigh 2-3 pounds more. She said if you want to find out how a cat is at a good weight you should feel the last part of his ribs and that means he’s healthy. I was given a starter pack of Science Diet for Sunny. I found out that he has a chip in his neck. The collar is just there for ID purposes. I have to register his AVID chip by mail for $15.00 for the company to activate it. He likes to knead the bed. It’s funny to watch. He sleeps with his head up, but his eyes closed. I keep taking him to the litter box so he’ll go. I think he’s afraid of the other cats. I also bring food on my bed for him to eat. I think if I don’t do this he won’t eat. I’m a big worrier. I’m trying to baby him. He licked most of the poop off his butt. He just smells a little like shelter smell. He still licks his scrotum where the stitiches are. He’s a nice little cat. He meows a lot. He really likes sleeping on my bed. I went out tonight and left him on my bed and came back to find him hiding in my closet under some junk. He came out after I stood there calling him. I went to PetsMart and bought him Science Diet dry food and wet food. I also bought a catnip mouse, cat grass, and catnip treats and Catsip milk. I also got cat shampoo and Nature’s Miracle to get the pee smell out of my couch. The other cats like going over to the couch to smell it. He likes the catnip mouse toy. I also bought him a fishing pole toy with a feather, fish, and bell at the end. He doesn’t seem interested, but the other cats do. My other cat seems to ignore me now. She used to come in here and sit on my lap and watch me type on the keyboard. Now she sleeps in the other bedroom and ignores me. She growls when I pet her too. Thanks for everyone for reply to my post. I like talking about cats with everyone and sharing these cat pictures.
Sorry for the double post, but I forgot to ask this question. How do I get Sunny or the other cats to use a second litter box? When I had my 2 cats one litter box was fine, but 3 cats sharing one litter box is too much so I added another litter box in the living room, but they won’t use it. Should I throw a turd in there and let them smell it and think hey it’s a good idea to use this one too? The other box also has different litter so maybe the litter is what they don’t like?
That’s what we did when we got a second iitterbox (threw one or two turds in there). Of course, at our house, there’s usually a fight to see who gets to use the fresh litterbox first, so there was no problem getting ours to use the new one! It could be the litter, but unless it’s drastically different, I wouldn’t think so. You could try mixing a bit of the other litter into the second box.
Sunny will start to perk up any time now. He did just have surgery, so you can’t blame him for not wanting to walk over to the litterbox or food dish. Usually they don’t eat too much the first day or so following surgery. We recently had our two girls spayed. Our Mama cat didn’t take it as well as her daughter did, and we worried about her for a few days. She was pretty thin to start, and got quite a bit thinner following the surgery. But she came around and finally started to eat. Now she’s working back up to a healthier weight. We recently switched to a multi-cat formula from Iams that’s supposed to help heavier cats trim down (our oldest two are a little chunky) and thinner cats gain some weight.
