I just bought gas for $2.09 a gallon!

25 years ago the so-called econmic experts predicted that $2+ gas was inevitable before 1985.

The reason that didn’t happen was us. We didn’t waste the fuel. We bought smaller vehicles. We drove slower. We carpooled. We used public transit if we could.

We can get and keep gas prices consistently below $2 again by re-adopting our old ways.

The re-dumbing has already begun. When Gas was $3.39, I saw many more people riding to work 3 or 4 to a small sedan. Now that gas is back down to around $2.10, the SUVs have come out of the garages and people are again driving to work alone. People in Priuses are doing 90 and justifying it by saying it doesn’t cost any more than doing 60 in a non-hybrid.

Before Big Oil runs the price up, park the SUV until you go on vacation or need to haul something big home from Home Depot. Put up with cramming a co-worker or two into that smaller car with you each day. Don’t replace the big SUV with another big SUV–buy a compact car and compact pickup for the same total price and use whichever is appropriate for the job at hand.

Or waste and scream to your Congressman that bad old Big Oil needs to be hit with windfall profits taxes that the old whore who took $100K from them last election won’t give you anyway.

There’s no need for a windfall profits tax. It’s a stupid idea put forward by ignorant politicians.

Quite frankly, the price needs to rise again. Geopolitically, I have no problem with $3.00/gas and $55/barrel oil - those sorts of prices puts so much oil online that we can get away from buying it from two-bit countries who’s third-rate tradition of civilization is antithetical to the West.

Same thing in Cincinnati. It jumped 15 cents overnight. Stopping buying cheap gas people; you’re ruining it for me!

We can get the same effect by lowering the speed limit to 55.
