Amusingly, I found this thread by doing a vanity search (which I do very, very rarely).
I did indeed have you (or at least your username) in mind in that thread; it just seemed to fit the topic at hand well. For the avoidance of doubt, I wasn’t implying any connection between you personally and a Venus flytrap.
I do still remember the FUB/AS connection too, which is a mnor miracle considering that my name recollection skills are pretty crap frankly.
Cryptic crosswords I’m not usually fond of, but that clue parses as:
Strangely (clues the solver to an anagram coming up, i.e. the letters are arranged “strangely”), a final (the anagram of your name) Southerner (the actual clue as to who the answer might be).
I’ve done vanity searches and usually I find only posts that I have made. They usually make me realize how little actual information I add to these discussions. This one included!
I’ll admit to doing vanity searches on a fairly regular basis. Usually it’s in response to something I’ve already posted, but occasionally someone (most often Cerowyn writing about our rampages through Tokyo) brings up my name in a thread.
I was momentarily flattered to see my name mentioned in the “Future of Human Evolution?” thread, but then found out they were just talking about space flight.
And btw, AwSnappity, I remembered your old name, too!
Amp, you can do vanity searches by using wildcards (Amp); unfortunately you’ll also pick up every other word with the letters “amp” appearing consecutively in them (“amplify”, “tramp”, “rampart” and so forth). I used to use this back when I was “jr8” – but then “jr8” doesn’t usually appear in commonly recurring words.
I vaguely recall that at the time you’d made a particularly funny response to something I’d written (in the Pit? don’t remember), so I figured I’d take the piss in another thread. Totally random. And in hindsight it maybe wasn’t that funny.
