I just filled out my retirement papers

The Pension will start after I leave.
I’ll need at least a part-time job, but I can get that, easy.

27 years–it’s been too long.

Congratulations, and happy retirement.

You could always try a contract house and specify part-time hours or limited length contracts. Your old job might even hire you as a contractor for lots more money.

Congratulations, retirement is magical!

You might not need to work part time, our expenses dropped when we retired.

We live in the sticks and always had to drive at least 45 minutes to get to work, or just about anywhere really. We ate out a lot because we just didn’t have time to deal with shopping and cooking and we bought a lot of processed food for eating at home. We went out and did something almost every weekend because we needed help relaxing and unwinding.

All of that went away with our jobs. We stopped running. We eat at home because we enjoy preparing food from scratch, we go out when there is something we really want to do instead of doing it because we thought we should.

I quit smoking a pack of cigarettes a day.

While we knew that our expenses would change when we retired, we really hadn’t considered all of the savings involved.

Small panic attacks, after the papers were filed.
But I’m in better financial shape than I have any right to expect.
And I’ll have a new job in a few weeks, tops.

Congratulations! You’ll love it.

I’m retiring in 2 weeks. Took me about 6 months to decide it was the right thing to do. After I gave my notice I had a big lump in my throat that lasted til the end of the day. Then I had regrets and anxiety. Now May 6 cannot come soon enough.

One aspect that I had not considered until it occurred to me out of the blue one day: when you are retired you no longer have to save for retirement. A huge chunk of my current income goes toward funding my 401k.

Congrats, OP (and others in this thread). I’m not retired yet, but I think about it every single day.

And I have a countdown app on my phone. :grinning:

mmm

Congratulations. Let us know how it goes.

My plan is to retire in about February 2023, because that’s when I reach full retirement age, as ordained by Social Security. It makes me feel a little panicky, because I haven’t been jobless since 1979.
