Ironic you should say that, “Repartee” was one of the correct answers on Thursday’s test. Missed that one having guessed “Touché” instead, but got 37 others right. Hope that’s enough and I get picked in the random draw for audition. Any idea if city selection affects odds to be called for audition?
I think touché was the correct response. There was some speculation on the unofficial Jeopardy message board whether repartee might also be acceptable, but most posters agreed that touché was the intended response. That was question 48 of the Pacific test (Thursday, March 8).
Yeah, based on that clue, the correct answer has got to be Touché. I would count “Repartee” as incorrect.
I’m glad to hear that. A website I checked shortly after had it as repartee, but obviously that’s nothing official.
I’ll tell Alex that he should count both. As a rapier-wielding francophone, I really think either would be correct. (Which means that if I’d gotten that on the show, I would’ve replied “What umm what is… ooh, what’s that word? Oh, what do I say in that situation? Oh, right… ‘I’ve got you now, my pretty’…” Oh, wait…)
Touché is definitely the correct answer. I believe the speculation on J Board was over riposte not repartee.
Why would anyone speculate that? A riposte doesn’t acknowledge anything.
Unless one wishes to argue that bothering to respond counts as an acknowledgement that a valid point had been made (and that’s a little convoluted for Jeopardy!).
