Just a reminder to anyone interested – the Jeopardy online contestant test starts tonight for those of us on the East Coast! You might still be able to register: www.jeopardy.com
Wish me luck! I registered last week.
Oh, crap…I remembered about the test, but forgot to start a thread reminding everyone about the test.
Guess I don’t need to do that now, though.
Thanks, but I’m not allowed to take the test.
Best of luck to everyone else, though.
Koowul!
Typo Knig and I tried out for Jeopardy about 15 years back, when they had tryouts in Atlantic City NJ. He actually passed the screening and was on the list of contestants but they never called him . Maybe this time will be the charm
I’m in the same boat as Mr. Moto - in my case specifically prohibited because I took the test in March 2006.
But hey, only 2 months to go before I can audition again!
Good luck, all y’all taking it tonight and the next two days. Let us know how you think you did.
Thanks for the reminder - I’ve been meaning to register.
I figured I have nothing to lose.
Brian
Do you think it’s necessary to have a exceedingly fast internet connection? Mine at home is quite slow.

Just registered on a mad impulse!
- We strongly encourage you to take the test in your own time zone. However, you may take the test on another night depending on the demands of your schedule.
Why? Is there something special about which batch of tests you take? I’d rather take it today, when I know I’ll remember it, than in 2 days. Any idea of that will for some reason lessen my likeliness to qualify?
I wonder how many people will cheat on this test. Is it offered live, simultaneously to everyone? In that case, you could get on a conference call and share answers. And for that matter, if you’re quick, you can google stuff.
Neither am I. But I’m sure Mr. Moto joins me in hoping another Doper makes the list!
I took the test last year using dial up and had no problems at all. I logged on a half hour before the scheduled test time and was ready to go after about ten minutes. Last year’s test was a Flash app, downloaded all at once, and is automatically triggered to start giving you the questions (you don’t have to answer in the form of a question) at the appropriate time. The only time it should need to talk back across the Internet is when the test is finished. You have a very limited time to answer each question (10 or 15 seconds) so using Google to cheat is nearly impossible. The questions may very well be done in random order for each person to prevent the conference call cheat.
I think the only reason Jeopardy is asking you to take the test at your assigned time is to spread out the number of people taking the test as much as possible. Dividing people by time zone is a very simple way of doing that.
Hints: type fast and trust your first impressions.
(FWIW, I got an invite to the in-person tryout but was in the middle of moving half-way across the country and had to decline. :()
You could do that…but if you make it to the next round, where you’ll be taking another test live and in person, they may frown on you being on a conference call.
People can cheat now if they want, but they’ll all but certainly be found out in the long run.
I don’t plan to cheat, but I do find myself curious - to anyone taking the test tonight, could you paraphrase your first question? That way we can see if everyone got them at random.
Does this have to be done right at 8pm tonight or can it still work later tonight? I’m not going to be home til later and I’d like to try.
I’d imagine it has to be live, so that everyone starts at the same time, otherwise there could be too much collusion.
Damn. Well then good luck to you guys.
You can do it Wednesday or Thursday night as well, just an hour later (ie, Wednesday is at 8 PM central time, Thursday 8 PM Mountain. I guess Friday is 8 PM West coast time?)
I just logged in and now have about 26 minutes to wait for it to start.
Good luck to everyone taking it!
