Finally, UK monopoly British Telecom has decided that we undeserving customers are now allowed to have broadband access to the internet. Mine got hooked up today and I’m in a state of stunned shock as it actually worked first time. Well, it actually worked first time after I’d spent 4 hours with our awesome Royal Mail who couldn’t find my house to deliver the modem. The house has only been here about 100 years
I had broadband (first ISDN, then DSL) in San Francisco about 6 years ago. Now admittedly I was working for a networking company, but still; 6 freakin’ years difference.
The last 2 years I’ve been labouring with 56K dial-up access but now I actually have a connection resembling something useful.
Surely you’re just asking for trouble if you pick BT as your isp. Having them as a phone supplier is bad enough, no need to double your exposure to them!
I actually just signed up for broadband today, and not with BT. I just can’t wait until the modem and microfilters get here, then I can start surfing this board at light-speed. Whooo- hoooo! After that, I’m going to get an apple ibook and an ipod, so I’ll have Mp3’s coming out of my ears!
Hey, Bibliovore, I hate to break it to you, but even with broadband, you will NOT be surfing this particular board at light-speed…you’ll find yourself frequently waiting on the hamsters…
now, once the hamsters finally decide to serve up the page, the actual page will load quickly…but that’s small consolation…
Exactly. I’ve gone up and down the bandwith scale so much it annoys the crap out of me.
