After almost five years, you are all looking at the newest Masters of Business Administration graduate of Roosevelt University! I finally graduated!
Yesterday, I got my MBA (with a concentration in Organizational Development and Theory). Graduation was pretty cool – it was the most organized graduation I’ve ever seen, plus it actually had interesting and dynamic speakers! Plus, it was over in around two hours, so that was a big bonus.
I started the MBA in 1998 and got most of my classes cleared out in two years, but after a job switch, I took a break (it would be another year until I got tuition reimbursement again, then when my company went Chapter 11, I decided to wait till things stabilized before going back to class) until last fall, when I went back and did my concentration classes in Org Theory.
I’m just so glad to finally get the degree done after having it hanging over my head for so long. What a great feeling! Now it’s time to start the job search; I’m in the environmental field right now and am looking to switch into something where I can actually use my degree. I’d like to get into management consulting, but with the economy the way it is right now, there ain’t a lot of those jobs available.
But I’m not gonna worry about that for now – right now, I’m just going to bask in the glow of a new degree and just enjoy the moment. Yay me!
That’s great news! Right now I am currently in the middle of working on my Bachelor’s in English. Its a big commitment, but seeing other folks pull it off is great inspiration for me to stick with it.
How’s this? After I unpack, I’ll host at my place. Donations of red wine will be cheerfully accepted, and I’ll make a big batch of sangria (hey, I didn’t spend that semester in Spain for nuthin’!). That way, no worries about who bought whom a drink. I’m a socialist at heart, but I’ll donate the means of production (consisting of fruit, punch bowl, and glasses, plus my special Secret Sangria Ingredients).
Thanks for the good wishes, all. I appreciate it. And Chicago Dopers, when I get a new job where I can use my newfound managerial skills (and incidentally make more dough), I’d be more than happy to fess up for a few drinks.
(Nope, not at the EPA, porc, at a consulting/contracting company.)
And Eva, your idea of a suaret at your place sounds fantastic. Let’s do it.
