I just got spam from the Catholic Church!

Not the Vatican, which has the top-level domain .va?

First typo.

How’d they know I was never baptised?

Gmail. Because an organisation as poor as the Catholic Church Italy can’t afford five bucks a month for its own email hosting service.

Putting in a Geek Code Block to impress the techies doesn’t work. Besides, it says that you have a -9 for spell checking.

Why so uncertain with the blessing, Rev. Vinocci? Could it be you’re really doing the work of… Satan??!

I prefer to get my SPAM from Costco.

They’re just trying to add a little “zing” to the Eucharist.

I like the bit about “undermining your religion.”

ZOMG!
Religion really is TEH AYVIL!!!

runs off to compose appropriate letters of apology to shrill-betty atheists

I wish I could get spam like that. I really did like the part where they’re giving away US$650,000 to undermine your religion. If I had gotten that, I would’ve gone to the ECUSA and told them that the Catholic Church is trying to undermine my religion for US$650,000 and ask if they want to up the ante to a cool million.

It’s about damn time that tithe business started flowing in the other direction! If you’re going to expect people to keep handing you 10%, you should probably set a good example by handing out 10% of your own. Hmph.

I’m Catholic, but a bit tapped out at the moment. Would you be willing to be undermined for $12.43?

I think it is just a case of fraud. Nuns are not refered to as reverand. They write their name with the order they belong to such as RSM, OP, etc. following.

I doubt very much that there is a Rev.Vinocci.

Monavis

Isn’t that an REM song?

You think it’s just a case of fraud?

I think a little more research might be called for.

Dig up what you can while the rest of the un-whooshed go for coffee.

I have just been spammed by HM Revenue & Customs. They reckon they owe me over £200 in overpaid tax.and all I have to do is give them my credit-card details, complete with the 3-digit security number.

You may think it isn’t so but I have a sister who is a Nun (for 60 years) Two others who were nuns. I had several nun Friends and the word Reverand was reserved to the Clergy. The head of an order was addressed as Reverand Mother but that is the only one.

I am not Catholic my self but I still doubt that the priest is not for real. I will check with My nephew who is a Catholic priest.

Monavis

I’m not sure what this means but I think it constitutes the rare doublewhoosh.

I’m going to go ahead and liquidate some stocks so that I can take advantage of this spectacular opportunity.

Double whoosh.

Nice.

ETA: Goddammit. Preview is my friend, apparently.

You may think it is a whoosh or even a double one, but check with your nearest Catholic church and ask them. You may doubt that my Sisters were and one still is a nun in GrandRapids, Mi. And my oldest brother’s son is a Priest.

I and several of my relatives have not been Catholic for many years.

Monavis

Wow, triple whoosh. It’s a freakin’ tornado in this thread.

Yah, but “Rev. Vinocci” is not identified as a nun.

Sister Gallo has “Rev” in her title, but that may be just part of the “Exec Sec” title.

Is that the only thing that you think makes it fraud?

No, not at all. I have checked on things in the past that were sent to me in the US mail and they were not true charities. The nun would sign her name as Rev. Mother (lets say) Lucy Jones O.P. or what ever order she was from. Mother is the highest one can get in all the Religious Orders that I am familiar with. My sister signs her name: Sister( Then Her First name) then Now( her last) plus O.P. as she is belongs to the order of St. Dominic. They used to take different names like Sister Mary Edmond O.P. Now they use their birth name.

Monavis

Monavis, all this whooshing is not because anybody thinks you’re wrong, but because nobody even thought this might be a real message from the catholic church, so your investigation in titles and names isn’t neccessary.
