I just installed a set of mini-blinds! I rock!

Just me and my Yankee drill. Only two more to go.

“I am woman, hear me roar…”

Yeah!!! Way to go DDG!

When I first started dating my DH, some 14 years (2 months, 3 weeks, 2 hours 15 minutes but who’s counting) ago, he, because he lived in the country and had no neighbors, had nothing on his windows, either.

I still, being the modest person I am, kinda wanted SOMETHING up there. some years later, I saw progress. A JC Pennys catalog open and scored to the mini blind section. 2 months later the catalog was gone. another 2 weeks later, cardboard boxes appeared in the dining room! 2 weeks later, the boxes had been moved to the appropriate windows, and ONE was even OPEN!!! Three YEARS later, that was still the status quo.

the following year, as an anniversary present, I gave him a venitian blind cleaner…

5 years later, all but one of the blinds were up.

now, some 3 years more down the road, we’re still a-waiting that last blind…

Two down and one to go. Bob Vila probably doesn’t spray his Yankee drill with Pam when it sticks.

Bonzo strolled past, saw Mom up on a stepladder doing “guy stuff”, his Y-chromosome kicked in, he went and got the power screwdriver, spent about 5 minutes stripping the heads of 2 of the screws, then went back outside.

“…in numbers too big to ignore…”

Bet you could do anything if you had to.

Good work DDG!

I was going to invite you over for the first (annual) SouthernStyle window dressing conference, but your last post removed that thought.

The office is staring and smiling, wondering why in the world I’m snickering, chortling, and crying trying to keep the volume down.

I just don’t see how telling them:

is going to help matters…

But congratulations again on “gettin 'em up”.

Hah! “Mission Control, the Eagle has landed…”

Bonzo couldn’t stand it any more, came back inside, rummaged around in the basement for other screwdriver options, fooled around with it for 5 minutes while I sat and drank Pepsi and watched Oklahoma with La Principessa, came to the conclusion that “Phillips screwdrivers suck”, sat down to watch Oklahoma and hand me tools from the coffee table while I completed project.

Memo to myself for future reference:

  1. They give you two sizes of screws. Use the small screws, the 1/2" not the 3/4". There will not be enough of the small screws in the package. Find some more 1/2" screws down in the basement, but not wood screws because they won’t fit through the holes all the way.

  2. The package for the 27" blinds says they need the middle support bracket, but I don’t think so. They aren’t that heavy.

  3. The big 43" blinds are definitely too heavy to omit the middle support.

  4. Don’t bother trying to hold the blinds up there with one hand while measuring for the middle support, like the instructions say. Go ahead and put up the blinds with just the two end brackets, then weasel the middle bracket up in there, in between the top blind and the main box thing, and then hold it in place and mark it. Then take the blinds back off the brackets and install the middle support.

  5. The odd-looking flat square thingies that come in the package are to slide on over top of the ends of the main box thing, to make it look less industrial, I guess.

  6. When buying blinds, make sure whether you’re getting “Light Filtering” or “Room Darkening”. It makes a big difference in whether your living room ultimately looks like it’s underwater.

  7. The stick-on “valance” (actually just an extra blind) is hopeless. Falls off. I don’t get it.

Well, there. That was my project for the day. Chalk up another one for sheer desperation. Tired of waiting for the Better Half to do Projects, I will just jolly well learn how to Do It Myself.

Now I am going to go over to the Pit.

Mom Rocks!

RE: 5 in your list.

THere also so that the blinds stay in “the main box thing” when you pull on the string and don’t come crashing down on your head.

Oh dear god, my first posted typo (I think). Dammit.

They’re also…etc

I guess that all this just proves that

A Goose with the PAM is worth Grem in a post.
Please tell me to go home now. Please? Please???
:: going anyway ::

SouthernStyle: Go home now.
