I just realized _____ is the same actor/actress who was _____ in _____

Her best role was Alexa Wolf in Howlin’ For You.

He was also Moloch in Watchmen.

Don’s extramarital fling in last season’s Mad Men was the girl from Freaks And Geeks. I watched the whole season wondering where I’d seen her before and finally looked it up. Linda Cardellini looked a LOT different!

Wait, Jenny from Forrest Gump was Princess Buttercup? I never would have guessed that one.

I think my favorite recent ones are:

Rory McCann, the actor who plays Sandor “The Hound” Clegane on Game of Thrones also played the big mentally challenged grocery store worker/thug whose only words are “YARP” and “NARP” in “Hot Fuzz”.

Stephen Dillane, who plays Stannis Baratheon on Game of Thrones played Thomas Jefferson in John Adams with Paul Giamatti, and also played the head Druid in King Arthur with Clive Owen and Keira Knightley.

He was also the guy who gets paralyzed in Remember the Titans

According to TV Tropes, his name is properly spelled BRIAN BLESSED!!!

And she played Velma in the Scooby Doo movie.

That guy’s a Baldwin?!
Never would have guessed.

He’s not a “Baldwin”, as in related to the family of acting Baldwins. Adam has been in acting longerand has always used that name.

Ah, thank you.

Not quite true. Adam and Alec started at about the same time. Both of them have their first credits in 1980. He’s been acting longer than most of the Brothers Baldwin, by a fairly wide margin, but not Alec.

Bilbo Baggins is Arthur Dent.

Technically true, though Adam was a lead in a movie while Alec had a small soap opera role. Alec eventually eclipsed Adam (starting when Adam landed one of the leads in Beetlejuice), plus Alec brought along his (mostly) no-talent brothers, but by that time Adam had established his own name. Generally speaking, agents will have their client change his/her name to avoid confusion with another ‘name’ performer. If your surname is Baldwin and you want to get into acting today, you would probably have to change it.

A couple from The Wire:

Mayor Royce is the high school teacher in Gremlins. (Noticed more by his voice than his looks)

Spiros (The Greek’s second hand man) is the Cohle and Hart’s boss in the second half of the season in True Detective

Wilson (Carcetti’s campaign manager) is Freddy the Rib maker in House of Cards

D’Angelo Barksdale is Bob in the Walking Dead (I thought this was obvious until I was discussing the Walking Dead with a group of people who also love The Wire and I mentioned that there are two people from the Wire - the all knew Cutty but I had to give mutliple examples before D’Angelo clicked with them.)

Speaking of inadvertent confusion…

Even proofreading didn’t help.

Although one of the roles is voice only, I was shocked to find that Luminere from Beauty and the Beast was Lenny Briscoe! At the time, I wasn’t aware the Jerry Orbach had a whole 'nother life as a Broadway star.

One of the cable networks (Spike?) did a promo for their upcoming showing of Starsky and Hutch, and the promo highlighted every S&H guest star who had appeared in any in Star Trek. They showed the S&H character, but gave them their ST names. It was pretty clever, especially for the ones who were very young and unknown in the S&H days. Wish I could find a copy of that.

Gimli (toss me!) from LOTR is Sallah in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Brian Blessed was in Flash Gordon as a Hawk-man. He was also the voice of Boss Nass in Phantom Menace.

Robin Wright was also Bruce Willis’ wife in Unbreakable. The kid in that was the kid in Gladiator.

Peter Capaldi, the newest Doctor, was in World War Z, playing a doctor from the World Health Organization (W.H.O.).

The ship captain, Katanga, in Raiders of the Lost Ark, (“Jones is dead. I killed him”), is Kingsley Shacklebolt in the Harry Potter movies.
