I just realized who Star Trek's Tranya Boy is

It is Clint Howard, Ron Howards brother.

I caught a little bit of a bio show on Ron Howard and they interviewed his brother. I kept thinking to myself “man, that guy looks familiar” but I couldn’t place him. then it hit me.

This is useless trivia. I hope you relish it as much as I

Who? “Tranya Boy”?? What incarnation of Star Trek are you talking about? Do you have a picture?

What incarnation of Star Trek am I talking about? I’m a purist. He heh. I’ve only watched the first series.

Look for the kid.

This thread is better suited for Cafe Society. I’ll move it for you.

Yeah, but the voice was dubbed. Badly.

I think they got Clint because they could save a bundle on makeup costs and still get a freakish looking person. It took Clint Howard to make the adult Ron Howard attractive.

This was one of the many roles that won Clint Howard a lifetime achievement award from MTV in 1999. This, and “Gentle Ben”.

Clint Howard is the poor man’s Charles Martin Smith.

I seem to remember a different Howard brother played Sheridan’s dad in Babylon 5. I think he was called Vance.

That always killed me. The first winner of the award was given to Godzilla, then the next year it went to Chewbacca, and the year after that, they gave it to Clint Howard.

Killed me.

You’re thinking of Rance Howard, who was Ron & Clint’s dad. He also played small parts in several of Ron’s films (he was the Lovell family’s clergyman in “Apollo 13,” for instance.

You really think that the poor need Clint Howard like that?

BTW, isn’t Clint Howard starting to look even more like when he was in The Corbomite Maneuver?

Wasn’t he the guy watching the radar in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me?

Yup, I’d say you’re right then!

Yes, indeedy. That would be him. And it wasn’t a Ron Howard film, either. Whaddya know.

They retired the award after that. Poor Clint thought the award really meant something. He did the talkshow rounds for a while and has the award proudly displayed on his mantle. MTV rethought the award and no longer gives it out, after they realized Clint thought it was a good thing.

I think the first winner was Friday the 13[sup]th[/sup]'s Jason Voorhees, not Godzilla.

I’m so sorry! I had no idea :frowning:

You have my condolences for your loss.

nitpick: The first one was given to Jackie Chan, at which point it seemed like he was never going to break into the mainstream in the US.

hmm. Nitpick on a nitpick. It was Jason Voorhees, then The Three Stooges, then Shaft, then Jackie Chan.

Clint Howard also showed up in a DS9 episode.
