I just reset the tablet I inherited from my father. It’s running sooooooo much better now, although I did feel a small pang at essentially erasing the remnants of dad from the tablet. Then I reminded myself dad wasn’t that sentimental and would probably want me to customize it for my needs.
Anyhow, while I’ve already loaded a few apps I will find useful, I’d like some basic games to go with it. Looking at the app store is a bit overwhelming. So I’m asking the Dopers for help.
I’d like the following for sure: classic Klondike solitaire and a crossword.
Also accepting suggestions for others people have enjoyed.
Free apps preferred in one sense, but I find lots of ads and crap annoying. I am considering apps with a token cost, let’s say under $3 USD
Be sure to register for a gmail account, and sign in to that account on your tablet. You should have a bunch of apps from Google, but especially Google Play. This is were all the fun stuff (and some serious stuff as well) is.
Search for the type of game you are looking for and download it. Most of the games are free or there may be a small cost. Avoid any which say they have in-game purchasing. These games (a slot machine for interest) will let you play with a few coins, but in order to continue, you would have to purchase more.
After you sign into your gmail account, you’ll probably get a notice to upgrade the software, always do this and you will get monthly security updates, too. Also do these.
I love my Nexus 7 and I hope you love yours as well.
BTW, Amazon has an app store with Android games also, but Google Play has millions.
My recommendation, if you want to fund the occasional purchase of cheap/ad-free versions of apps and songs, is to install the Google Opinion Rewards app, which pays you in Google Play credit to answer occasional, short survey questions.
As for the suggestion that you avoid games with in-app purchases, you will avoid some crippled crap but you’d be missing out on some great apps, since some apps that have in-app purchases are perfectly playable without them.
Here’s a really good solitaire app, the same company has lots of other great free and cheap games.
I also have a Nexus 7, I use it all the time. I like city-building games, so I have SimCity Buildit. No ads, although you do have the choice to watch video ads for the chance to get special items. It does have in-app purchases but you can play the game just fine without spending a dime.
I also like Blendoku, a color blending game. There is something very satisfying about achieving the color blends. They do have occasional popup ads between levels.
