I just saw a Jill Stein Commercial?!?!?

I live in Maryland which, according to Nate Silver, is the third most “locked up” race in the country, behind only DC and HI. Fivethirtyeight.com has Hillary ahead by over 30 percent. Why would Jill Stein waste what little money she has by advertising in a locked up state? I saw the ad just before the much hyped Tonight Show lip synch battle between Jimmy Fallon and Seth Rogan. Did she purchase National air time, and if so, how much did it set her back?
And, BTW, her message was aimed squarely at the Bernie Bros. I think she touched on every position Bernie had.

Aren’t all states locked up with regard to her, though? She’s not actually going to win anything, so she doesn’t have good or bad states to run ads in. This is just a vanity exercise.

She raised the money. She may as well spend it. This was probably perceived to be worthwhile for the Libertarian Party long game in general.

The idea is to get federal funding next election, so you advertise where the potential Green voters are. Locked up states are best, because that way far left liberals feel safe voting for Stein since Clinton will win regardless.

Considering how anti-science the Green Party is (nukes, GMOs, vaccines), it’s not surprising they don’t care about electoral data. Even for a blue state, Maryland is pretty poor ground for the Greens considering the Dems there are largely rich suburbanites or blacks, with not as much of the college student/white progressive base she might find in New England or the West Coast.

Maybe she wanted the ad to be seen by the Washington Elite, to make them think she’s actually a thing?

Now that everybody knows that Hillary is a shoo-in, the Bernie Bros can feel free to cast their protest votes without fear of electing Trump. There must be a good number of them in MD, so to build the future credibility of the Green Party, she must try to get them.

Are you saying the Trump campaign paid for the ad?

That would be clever. As soon as the detectives get back from Hawaii, we should have them investigate.

That’s your answer there, I think. People will feel free to vote for Stein if they know Hillary will win the state anyway.

There are many blacks supporting Jill because of her great policies, she is only asking for a moratorium on GMOs until they are proven safe, think about Monsanto doing all of this. This could be bad.

So she’s so pro science, then why won’t she come out and say that she’s in favor of vaccination?

“Proven” safe? To what degree and by whose standards?

She’s expanding the map!

“Many” being a relative term. Crosstabs in polls I’ve seen put her at 1% of the African-American vote.

Where do you live in Maryland. It’s such a tiny state that maybe your media market extends into one of the many adjacent states, where HRC isn’t doing quite so well (PA, WVA).

Not a green party or Stein supporter, but if I remember correctly, I don’t think she’s necessarily an anti-vaxxer at all. I think she’s saying she has serious questions about the process of approving some of these vaccines, which is probably a reasonable question. But I could be wrong - I don’t follow her campaign.

I think adaher is right. Stein must know she’s not going to win the election. And she probably would prefer Clinton beat Trump. At the same time, she wants to expand her party.

So she’s campaigning in a state that’s already strongly committed to Clinton. A Democratic state is more likely to have Green supporters than a Republican state is. And third party voters will feel safe in voting for Stein, knowing that it’s not going to swing the state to Trump.

I actually live in a very red part of Maryland, about an hour SE of DC. I share the same cable system as DC, however, so all the theories about her picking this area because Hillary voters know that she will win makes sense. I was just wondering if anyone else saw the commercial?

This is also why I don’t think Clinton ever had to worry about Stein taking away votes. The states where she’s most likely to be on the ballot are the ones that already lean heavily for Clinton.

Hence I see no reason a 3-way survey is any worse than a 4-way one.

Clinton crushed Bernie in the Maryland primary. Stein is showing again what an idiot she is. She should use her limited funds in Oregon, Washington state, Vermont as well as select college towns.
