I didn’t expect to, given the soap opera around her and the fact that usually anything that’s trendy and wins lots of grammies is over-rated, but after listening, I was really wowed. It’s kind of hard to pin down, but I dig it.
Ditto. Aside from that dorkus ‘Rehab’ song, she belts it out in the traditional blues style. This demo version of Love is a Losing Game is terrific. Since I don’t live in the UK I don’t have to see the tabloid vomit about her-if I did I’m sure I’d be sick of the sight and sound of her.
Yup, same here. Brilliant voice. Too bad she’s not straight enough to belt out more often.
Might want to check out Duffy if you’re trolling for new music. I was skeptical when I saw her getting bragged up in mainstream press and her sound could be termed derivative, but she has a voice and style that’ll bowl you over.
The reprogramming teams are on their way. Stay where you are. Touch nothing.
Her version of Valerie (by the Zutons originally) with Marc Ronson is amazing. Partly it’s the brass but her vocals are class in it.
She definitely has some talent, and it’s refreshing to see a female singer who can really sing, and is not just boobs and an ass who can carry a tune (see Jessica Simpson). But AW is such a trainwreck that I don’t see her with any staying power - in fact, I will be surprised if she’s around in 5 years.
Amy Winehouse a few years back.
Pretty shocking, eh?
Amy Winehouse has an excellent voice, and she knows how to use it. I think she has a great singing career ahead of her–if she lives to see her 28th birthday, that is.
Then again, Shaney Mac is still kicking, so there’s always going to be hope for Amy.
Another AW fan here. Her voice is really luscious. And I like Rehab, too. She’s got a nice retro sound you don’t hear all that often these days. But I do hope she cleans up her act. It’s really a shame to see such talent go down the tubes.
I suspect in ten years the only time you’ll hear her name is when William Shatner is announcing the next tune/video.
It’s all about the gossip. Not that she doesn’t have some talent mind you, but she’s only getting talk becuase her life is such a mess.
i am also a lover, her voice is so attractive
I get that her personal struggle to say sober and on an even keel is part of her music, but at this point I wish she’d just do covers rather than staying aboard the trainwreck.
I don’t think that’s true. I liked her music before I knew about her personal life, and I heard of her based on her music.
BTW, I don’t know if those who are expressing concern know this, but she entered rehab back in January and might be turning things around.
“Yes, yes, yes!”
Not true; her first album which was a big hit in the UK came out before any of her substance issues. The US was behind in discovering her.
Something about this shot - no longer goody-goody, not yet skank - just makes me wanna throw myself on her.
