Hello, my name’s MacTech, and welcome to my Rex the Runt thread…
I just discovered this amusing little Aardman claymation series, and it’s just great, full of absurdist humour, rampant breaking, nee, shattering of the Fourth Wall, and amusing little inside jokes** with other Aardman animated shorts
Of the four main characters, I like Bad Bob, who vacilates between endearingly dim, and quite intelligent, plus, I love the fact that his choice in toy revolvers is always changing, also, his eyepatch seems to switch eyes at random
I also really like Vince, his random non-sequiters, his inability to string more than three words together, I even like his unfortunate case of Random Pavarotti Disease, he’s got the uncanny ability to spout off the right random word(s) at just the right time, I haven’t seen such a great little insane character since Gir, from Invader Zim…
As for Rex and Wendy, I don’t dislike the characters, they’re just clearly the “straightmen” for Vince and Bad Bob to play off of, personally, I think the real stars of the group of four are Bad Bob and Vince
It’s quite amusing that all four main characters seem to be aware that they’re a TV show, and that they’re made of plasticine (gotta love the Vince-Clones in "The Plasticine Gene), even making jokes about their flexible, amorphous construction and two-dimensional nature, it even mixes in smatterings and bits of live-action (like Mr. Postman, and whenever the Runts go out for a drive)
The show’s just brilliantly random, you can never tell where it’ll go from episode to episode (on the first viewing, obviously), and the sets are so visually dense
** in various episodes, Gromit from Wallace and Gromit appears in a cameo as a window washer, a chicken from the Chicken Run movie auditions for a talent show, as the Runts lament about the “popularity of chickens these days”, Morph shows up as a…judge, IIRC, Pib and Pog are in the jury in the episode where Wendy is on trial, and in the basement of the Televangelist cult-leader, there are jars containing the “souls” of Wallace, Gromit, and Nick Park
Plus, it’s got Jam, and 'strone!
LA, LALALALALALA La LAAAA!
(sorry, just had a bout of RPD there…)
…just imagine if Vince and Gir were to have their own show, oh the madness that would ensue…
Any other fans of Rex and his friends?
Pants!
Shut it, Vince!
