I Like New Socks

Yes, I like them quite a bit.

Kohl’s had a sale this weekend, so I treated myself to two ten-packs of fine, new socks. Twenty days of cozy toes, without holes, without loose elastic, without that odd buildup of fuzz in the heel, without trying to find a matched pair in the morning. Plus, I can take my shoes off at work and be confident that nobody’ll be looking around wondering what that smell is.

Ahhh…life is good at the moment.

You can only make socks last 20 days without holes?
My advice - Own only the one type and colour of sock. That way you never have to find a matching pair because they all match.

I would have to disagree only slightly, Lobsang. I own two colors; black for work and formal occasions, white for wearing tennies and other such informal occasion.

Actually, as I think about it, I own a third type, which kind of undoes my theory: Bicycle socks made specifically for wearing with bicycle shoes. And each and every pair of those has a different logo on’em so I’m always searching around for a match.

Ok, I really like new socks. That first wearing is the best - when they’re the same thickness all the way through, haven’t been washed yet and just feel cozy on your feet.

I’m a little jealous - it’s been a while since I’ve had a bunch of fresh new socks that feel so nice.

I wear only black socks (exception: three, maybe four times a year I’ll wear white sneakers, so I put on white socks). The trouble is, black fades in the wash. So I usually have to spend some time find a pair that are faded an identical amount. And that’s before we even begin looking at the elasticity factor.

Let’s just say this: If I hit the lottery, the one wasteful extravgance I would allow myself is a fresh, brand new pair of socks each and every day.

White socks for white sneakers.
Black socks for black sneakers.
Color socks (red, navy, beige) since they were in the bag with the black socks.

I can find bags of all white socks, but cannot find bags of all black socks.

Yup, I like brand-new, not-yet-stretched-out-at the top, twisted-at-the-foot, snaggy-all-over-the-place, stiff-as-a-board-from-all-that-washing, still-pristine-white socks.

Mayhaps ol’ Hal should try clipping those toe nails.
Get on him kitten! :stuck_out_tongue:

You know, someone ought to write a book. “The Joy of Socks” or “Socks’ Appeal” or some such.

Ponder Stibbons and Hal Briston I’m with ya on the black socks. They go with everything for daily work and other occasion wear. What’s that you say? What if you wear brown slacks? Brown slacks? Brown slacks? Did I say my name is Al Bundy? Brown slacks indeed! See, there’s no need for brown slacks ever! Or suits either.

Anyhow, black socks for work and dress up occasions and white for everything else. That’s all any man ever needs to know about socks.

Psst… Hal… wash and rinse socks in cold water. Keeps em from fading so quickly.

I love new socks too. The multi-packs at Wal-Mart suit me just fine.

And I second that idea of having only a few designs of socks. I have only two designs: thick white socks and thin ankle socks. I also have “specialty” types for dressy shoes.

Man, I feel so sorry for all you guys who are so stiffled in your socks wardrobe. I admire men who wear funky socks. SP has a few pair that are less than stuffy, but nothing really cool except the pair with the palm trees on them. Those are great, I think I had to talk him into them though.

I absolutely adore new socks as well, The first couple wearings are the best. As a girl, I get to buy all kinds of fun new socks. Funky plaid ones that show through the tops of my Dr. Martens, ones with horses on them for wearing with my riding boots, etc.

Yes, kittenlm has quite the cutsie sock collection as well. When I’m sorting laundry, it’s always the same thing:

Black socks – mine.
Black socks – mine.
Pink socks with rainbows and unicorns – hers.
Black socks – mine.
White socks with kitty cats – hers.
Black socks – mine.
Red, white and blue fireworks socks – hers.
Care Bear socks – hers.
Black socks – mine.
White ankle socks with little pink puffballs – mi…errr…hers.
Black socks – mine.

I went nuts and bought about 20 pairs of cute socks one time.
All different colors and patterns.
Now I have about 20 socks that don’t match.
The good thing is that they are all the same size and thickness.
So if you see me wearing one Scooby sock and one blue, pink, white, and black sock you know why.

That’s why I usually wear thongs when the weather’s nice. Just too lazy to find socks.

Girl here. I prefer a limited selection of socks: fewer to match up, and easier to match up when I lose one.

I even check the ribbing (vertical ‘stripes’ - easy to match up the two ribs, 4 ribs and 8 ribs. Only had two pairs of socks with 6 ribs - quite rare, actually).

Hot Socks?

Ooh, Hal, you’d have been in heaven a few weeks ago, if you were my hubby. See, he refuses to wear anything but Dockers crew socks. White ones, or tan if he’s wearing his loafers. They cost $10 for a three-pack at Sears, and they’re usually out or almost out. So when I went to the Levis outlet store, and found them for $5.99, and buy-one-get-one-15%-off, I bought him four 3-packs of white and two 3-packs of tan! He was in HEAVEN!

I love new socks, too, but I like to have a few colors. Mostly I wear white, though. Hanes Her Way white crew socks.

Cool! I don’t always match my sock either…

I’m a sandal person when the weather’s warm, too. But even in the summer I need to wear socks occasionally. I just can ride horses or go biking in sandals.

Me and my oldest friend have been touting the ecstatic wonderment that is new socks (or even clean socks) on deaf ears for the longest time, and I am glad that the SDMB has once again shown it has such excellent tastes.

After a busy day and knowing a long night is yet to come, I (and my friend) have been known to change from the current pair of sweaty, thinly-stomped socks to a fresh pair from the car or backpack or such, and my wief and her family simply can’t understand how refreshing it is and look at me like a weirdo.

'Course, I usually keep a fresh pair in whichever winter coat I am wearing at the time as well, but I always try to be prepared.

You wear underwear on your feet??

:stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I can’t wear sandals due to stank-foot. :stuck_out_tongue:
